Won't play new blue ray disk - Sony BDP-S300 Blu-Ray Disc Player

if you are unable to play a bluray disc on this player, you might consider the following reasons:

1. you may be playing a bluray disc that has different region code.

2. If the bluray supports the region codes on the bd discs, then, you may need to consider resetting the bluray to factory default.
Follow this instruction:
a. when the power is ON, hold down the STOP button on the front panel, and press the POWER button ( the player turns off, and all of the settings return to their factory defaults )

3. Update the software of the player. If you have computer, download the firmware update and burn it to disc. Insert the burned disc to your player and run it. You may refer here for the link for instruction to download and install the firmware. BDP S300 Firmware Update

If the above solutions will not help you play a bd disc, then, service may be necessary to your player.

So what do I need to do so I can watch my blue ray movies? It only plays the standard DVD movies

Will your machine play standard movie DVD discs? if it does then the laser pickup assembly is the problem. The blue ray discs require a higher precision tracking to offer better resolution.
