This is a puzzler to me.
Our 9 year old Magic Chef CTF1920ARA 18.39 CU Ft. Unit has a freezer that works normally, but the refrigeraon't keep cool.
Two weeks ago the 'frig started to freeze everything inside. We turned the control down to make it less cold.
Yester and today, now nothing stays cool. We turned the knob to about 5 but still nothing is cooling down.
All this time, the freezer has been working fine.
What could I check? How might I, a guy inexperienced with refrigerator repair get the 'frig part to cool again?
Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if
there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not
defrosting as it should.
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice
melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if
is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above
items.

Your description fits the symtoms exactly. I am going to totally defrost the refrigierator then plug it back in. Then, I will see what the results are.
