Damaged CCD (the digital version of the film) - repair shop im afraid

If you are getting fine horizontal lines thet means the picture is over exposing. most probably the apparture or the shutter blade mechanism is not working fine. needs repairs.

dont worry just call canon and they will repair it FREE of charge as it
is a manufac fault known in thousands of cameras canon has also issued
a service advisory for such models just see the link and call them they
will send a postage paid envelope to pickup camera and it will be
repaired free of charge PLS RATE ME FIXYA for help !

I had the same problem, sent it to Zacks Camera Repair in RI, and he said (not sure if I remember exactly) the cvd chip was gone, and that it would cost as much as the camera is worth to repair it ($225). He told me to not buy a Kodak next time....but I loved that camera for 4 years!!!!
