    Geno,

thank you so very much for your assistance. I completed one of two timers and works great, I just need to find a two switch plate cover for a regular light switch and this Woods Ind 59008 Digital Time unit.

    Happy Holidays.

Sure George.

These in-wall timers have extra wire to operate the electronics located inside timer.
You said your old switch has 3 wires.
The new timer can only replace on-off switch that has 2 brass screws and a green screw.
If old switch has 2 brass screws and a dark screw, that is a 3-way switch.
Typically a 3-way switch is found at both ends of hallway.
The Woods 95008 countdown timer is not made to replace 3-way:

Here's what to do:
1) Switch has 2 wires (plus bare ground wire). Take switch wires and connect them to timer-black-wire and timer-red-wire. Choose either one for now.
2) In back of electric box are white wires twisted together and covered with wire nut. Connect timer-white to these wires. This wire will power timer electronics.
3) If electric box does not have white wires described above, then connect timer-white to bare ground, along with timer-green wire.
4) Turn on electricity, and push override button located below the OFF button. If lights come on, timer is wired correctly. If lights do not come on, then reverse timer-red and timer-black wires.

It's a little late, I know, but I would love to hear an explanation for this...

"2) In back of electric box are white wires twisted together and covered with wire nut. Connect timer-white to these wires. This wire will power timer electronics.
    3) If electric box does not have white wires described above, then connect timer-white to bare ground, along with timer-green wire."

If the white wires at the back of the box are what powers the timer, how can the timer possibly work if those wires aren't there and one connects the timer-white to just the ground wire?

Will these timers work with a newer central exhaust system, in place of the bathroom fans. Thanks Paul

Woods 59008 timer would not toggle and stay in 10-20-30-60 minute position

Hari,

DISCONNECT POWER..circut breaker.. FOR 30-60 SECONDS AND REAPPLY, SOMETIMES A POWER SURGE CAN LOCK UP THE ELECTRONICS AND THIS WILL RESET IT.
Otherwise Amazon has them for $13.00.

Best to you.

I just installed a Woods Digital In-wall Timer Model #59018. When I switch the power and manually turn the power on, the lights rapidly flash on and off. This is a three-way outlet and I have red, black...

3-way outlet or 3-way switch?
Woods 59018 only replaces single-pole switch, and does not work for 3-way application. Often connecting timer wrong will cause lights to blink. No harm done to lights, timer or wiring.
There are several timers that work with 3-way. In each case the timer replaces 1 switch and other 3-way switch must be rewired.

Usually when there is intermitent power like that there is a bad connection under one of the wirenuts. Remove the timers, untwist all wirenuts and start over.

I looked it up and it sounds like your unit is defective. It should run for 5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes. There are no "seconds" options. The timer chip/module may be defective.

We have a fan 60 minute push button timer we purchased and installed with a 3-wire system. WE need to purchase another one but they all have 4 wires now. Where can we purchase a 3-wire one.

It sounds like you have mechanical push-button type timer.
I need more information to avoid guessing which timer is best for your situation.

I'm not sure what a 3-wire system is?
Add a comment
1) How many switches control same fan
2) What color wires inside box.

Is this
3) low-horsepower bathroom fan?
4) other fan, for example: higher horsepower attic fan, 3/4 horsepower industrial kitchen fan, or 1-horsepower whole house fan?
5) Is this your home or is fan for continual commercial use?

6) Is this a countdown timer that turns fan OFF automatically after 60 minutes?
7) Or what kind of timer are you looking for.

Open following link for list of home-use countdown timers and horsepower ratings of countdown timers.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Countdown-timer-horsepower-ratings.html

Spring-wound timers do not require extra Neutral wire, and can control 1 HP whole-house fan.
The push-button timers each require Neutral wire to run electronics inside timer, and they range from 1/6 HP to 3/4 HP which will work for any bathroom fan.

you will need to determine what amps the timer switch is rated for, and what are the rated amps for the light/fan/heater. More then likely you will need to buy a new timer switch which is rated for the correct amps. Hope this helps Tim
