Hi, this information represents a basic troubleshooting guideline. Refer to your user guide for specific charging and connection instructions. Manuals may be available online in the Support Web site of HP.

Remove the battery from the computer.
Confirm the battery contacts are free of any foreign material that may prevent charging.
Reinsert the battery into the computer.
Verify that the AC adapter cord is properly connected and plugged directly into a known working AC power outlet.

NOTE: If the battery charges correctly when the AC adapter is plugged directly into an AC power outlet, but not when plugged into a power strip or surge protector, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the computer battery or AC adapter.

Verify the correct AC adapter is being used.
Ensure the AC adapter box power light is on. This will be an illuminated green light.
If the AC adapter power light is not on, the AC adapter and power cord will need to be replaced.
Verify the charging indicator is illuminated on the computer.
If the issue still exists, install a different compatible HP battery, if available.

NOTE: If a replacement battery charges and operates correctly, the problem is with the first battery.

If neither the original nor a replacement battery charges, service may be required for the computer.

Batter wont stay charge

Most laptop batteries have a life expectancy of two years or 400 to 450 charge and discharge cycles. After this time, the battery may lose the ability to charge or to hold a charge for substantial periods of time. When this happens, it's likely the battery needs replacement. However, troubleshooting can narrow the problem and ensure you are not wasting money on a battery replacement.

Check Power Adapter Turn the laptop off. Remove any power cords or power sources. Separate the battery from the bottom of the laptop. Slide or press the locking mechanism to unlock the battery. Slide the battery out of the battery compartment. Plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet. Insert the opposite end of the adapter into the charging outlet on the side of a laptop. Power on the laptop. If the laptop does not turn on, the power adapter is not correctly working. If the power adapter is not working, the battery can not charge. Replace the power adapter. If the laptop powers on, the power adapter is properly working. Clean Battery Contacts Turn the computer off. Remove any power cords or sources. Take the battery out of the battery compartment. Dip a cotton swab in isopropyl alcohol. Rub the dampened swab on the battery compartment and battery contacts. Dust and buildup can prevent battery contacts from properly charging. Slide the battery back into the battery compartment. b> Charge and Test Battery Plug the power adapter into the laptop. Charge the battery for six hours. Remove the power adapter. Turn the laptop on. If the laptop turns on and stays on for at least 30 minutes, the battery is holding a charge. If the laptop doesn't turn on or the battery doesn't power the laptop for at least 30 minutes, the battery should be replaced.

My battery won't charge even if I replaced it with new battery.

If your battery will not charge, you need to run a test on some components on the laptop. The battery, the charger and the laptop itself. Once you detect the faulty conponent then you replace it with a new one.

To test the battery:
1.Power off the laptop,
2.Take out the battery,
3.Insert it in another laptop,
4.Check of it will charge,

If the battery holds a charge there, then it means the problem is not from the battery, but if it does not hold a charge, then it means the battery is defective and need to be replaced with a new one.

To test the charger:
1.Unplug the charger from the present laptop,
2.Connect it to another laptop to see if it will charge.

If it charges the laptop, then it means the charger is alright, and if it does not charge the laptop, then it means the charger is bad and need to be replaced.

To test the laptop:
1.Turn off the laptop,
2.Disconnect your present charger,
3.Remove your present battery pack,
4.Insert a well tested battery into the laptop,
5.Connect a well tested charger to the laptop.

If it powers on, then it and charges, then it means the laptop is working fine, but if it does not charge, then it means the connection port of the laptop is bad.Hope this information was helpful.

Battery not charging

Is it a replacement battery ,you purchased, with the EXACT same specs? Some aftermarket inexpensive batteries do not work well with your laptop. How do you know it's not charging, by the Icon in the Tray Notification Area? Again sometimes aftermarket batteries don't have the ability to communicate with the software. The pin-outs are not the same.

Laptop will not charge battery. Issue with internal power converter, etc.

The motherboard has charging circuits built in to regulate the charge to the main battery, in rare causes it fails leaving a choice to attempt a repair or replace the motherboard. I suspect this is what has happened to your system.

I have new laptop how many hour battery charge first time

First Time Charging
  • The amount of time it takes for your battery to fully charge depends on many factors, like your battery type and operating system. Many newer laptops will charge in 15 to 20 minutes, while others can take a few hours.

When you're charging your battery for the first time, charge it fully before using your laptop. You may have to go through a battery cycle a couple times before your battery begins performing at its maximum capability. To do this, charge your battery fully, let it discharge to about five percent, and then fully charge it again

Battery will not charge.plugged in not charging

Does the computer start anyway, but it's just that the battery won't charge? If that's the case, it's probably a bad battery.

A procedure to do before assuming a bad battery is to (1) remove the battery, (2) disconnect the power supply from the computer, and (3) press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds. This resets the logic circuits in the internal power handling section. If that doesn't help either, then the battery is probably bad.

If the computer isn't starting, however, it could be that the power supply has failed. Check the voltage output on the power supply.

    Hope that's helpful.
