No, there are no Europe maps preloaded on the tom tom 540 xxls gps device. You will have to load the maps on it by yourself. The reason it is not preloaded is because, you might be purchasing the device in Canada and shipping it to any other destinations, therefore if a specific kind of map is on it, it might not be suitable for the area you are taking to.

First you need to reset the tom tom by holding down the power button for about 10 seconds, it will restart itself, from there it should get passed the tom tom logo.
If it does not do the job, then you need to connect your gps to a computer, then back up the files then you restore the files back on it after formating the gps.
