Toshiba 61H70 The picture is perfectly fine however it is shifted by about an inch to the left side of the TV. The 1 inch on the left hand of the TV is a straight black line.

I'm sorry I described it wrong. The picture is shifted to the right, therefore there is a 2 inch black line on the left side of the TV.

  • bobvnd Jul 04, 2008

How do you adjust it using the settings menu?

  • bobvnd Jul 04, 2008

I am not calling a technician and paying to fix an 8 year old TV that works but the picture is shifted. I am an electrical engineer who can work on electronics but don't have a schematic or test points to check. What can I do?

  • bobvnd Jul 04, 2008

tried resetting TV. It didn't work

  • bobvnd Jul 04, 2008

This TV has no setting where you can shift horizontally or vertically.

  • bobvnd Jul 04, 2008

Jamie - My email is [email protected]. The picture is perfect, it is just shifted to the right 1-2 inches.

I have the info you need to adjust the width through the service menu. Its too lengthy to enter here as its a half of the service manual. Send a email to me at [email protected] and I will email it to you and that should widen out your picture.

Horizontal phasing or shifting of picture horizontally is caused leaking transistor will show up when waveforms are measured. The problem is confirmed further when the d-c voltages are measured.Collector -base leakage in the horizontal output transistor is a common problem..
Find a technician to do works for you ,in order to avoid high voltage shock...
Before anything else try resetting option pull out the plug from the outlet wait for 20 minutes put it back the plug to the outlet turn on the TV go to menu setting then set for factory default. If nothing happens then the first option is the best...

it seems your problem is SERVICE MODE adjustment...

  • Anonymous Jul 05, 2008

    Toshiba TV Various Models

Service mode procedure for most Toshiba TVs

Press sound mute (on remote)- Tv displays sound mute OSD, Then hold
down sound mute and press the menu button on the control panel
This should display the service mode data with an 'S' in the corner of the screen. Gives basic geometry and display data.

Press the -- button on the remote - enters frame collapse mode - to set screen voltage

    When in service mode:-

Hold down CALL (on the remote) and press the menu button, Set then enters design mode

All sub data can then be adjusted.

    Projection models

From service mode - pressing the yellow button on the remote gives the convergence adjustment mode

    Up/2 Down/8 Left/4 Right/6

Press 5 to toggle adjustment / move - on / off

Press 3 to change colour to be adjusted

It is recommended that the green convergence grid should not be adjusted

Pressing the red green or blue buttons will toggle the corresponding convergence grid

From service mode - hold down the F on the remote and press 7 - enters
convergence menu - auto convergence setup for different aspect ratios

    Hope this is useful

Seems to be an issue with the horizontal amp. I would recommend getting a qualified technician to take a look at this..

  • Anonymous Jul 04, 2008

There should be a setting in the menu for vertical/horizontal shift. Try using that to shift the picture into place. If that does not work, or you do not have that feature available, then, like I said, it could be a failing vertical/horizontal amp, which will require the attention of a qualified technician..

Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions,
    please post them here.

I Have a Toshiba 27DF46 The Picture is shifted to the right about 3 inches or so. other than that the picture is fine but I can't see the right edge on the picture. Any thoughts

Try going into the picture settings in the options. Many Toshiba TVs have the option to move the picture up, down, left, and right. See if you are able to position the TV to the left more.

Also, see if there is a reset button in the options. A setting may have been switched that caused this.

Toshiba 61H70 projection TV. Perfect picture but the sound suddently stopped working. Tried all on screen settings and still no sound. Set is 8 years old but relatively few hours. Is it worth repairing?...

it sounds like the soundboard went out on the tv..its probably worth fixing but you have to know what you are doing if you do it on your own.it could be something more minor too but not sure
