Possible that there is a gap in the spinning agitator that seems to chew up the clothes to damage.
SO if you notice this gap then remove and reset the spindle.
if not make sure that the drum pores have some sharp edges which is tearing , run your hands/palm over the drum for a suspected abrasive edge. Can be some objects that have lodged into and causing to behave as a knife edge.

Clothes have lint on them when the washing cycle is finished is there a lint area i need to clean

The newer Whirlpool top-loaders have lint screens on the inner tub and not accessible. These are supposed to self-clean during the drain cycle. I've heard that liquid fabric softener and detergent build-up may clog the screens when lint sticks to the gooey screens. Try something that will cut the goo like vinegar or ammonia in a small load level without clothes. Without clothes in the washer, that is.

Older Whirlpool washers have lint filters located above the tub, on the lid opening.

Good luck from Detroit, MI.

Smeared clothes

Hi!

You can look at this as to how lint/whitening from your clothes can be removed---

This is due to un-dissolved soap and is worst in a colder climate where the cold water entering the washer is much colder than normal.

Cutting usage to 1/2 of what it says will still wash good and also cut your chances of getting "whiting" on your clothes.

Over loading the washer is another cause: Even if the agitator is suppose to go back and forth, the clothes are not. If you can hold the lid button on your washer so you can watch the clothes wash, they should 'roll" in the basket and not go back and forth like the agitator. The clothes will go down the side of the agitator, across the bottom of the basket, up the side of the basket and across the top of the water in a rolling motion. Overloading is not just too many clothes but also too little water for the size of the load is another way of having a overloaded wash load.

Water temp is also important: Use a thermometer to test the temp of the incoming water in your washer. Hot water should be close to 140 degrees F.

This is normal. You can try a lower spin setting or smaller loads. The wrinkles will come out in your dryer.

Front loading washer leaves stains

This often is called "lint" but is really a "whiting" left by un-dissolved soap and can be seen at it's worst on dark colored clothes. This is made worse in a colder climate where the cold water entering the washer is much colder than normal. Things that can effect the quality of the finished washed products.
Too much soap: ( we have a test for this further down the page ) If you follow the manufactures instructions on the box, then chances are you ARE using too much soap. They like to sell you their product, I find cutting usage in 1/2 of what the box says will still wash good and also cut your chances of getting "whiting" on your clothes.
