Porter Cable C2002 150 Psi 6 Gal Compressor Logo
Anonymous Posted on Dec 19, 2010

I have a C2150 4 gal compressor from Porter cable with 2hp peak and 1.2hp continous rated motor. The problem is that I can not run the compressor on a 15amp circuit with out tripping the breaker. It even trips 20amp breakers if the compressor isn't close to the fuse panel. Is there anything I can do to reduce the amperage draw? It only acts up when the tank has some pressure in it, I can drain the tank and the compressor will run fine til it has to cycle back on.

It should run on a 15 amp circuit, but I am not using any extension cord. I have tried using this compressor on several jobs with and without cords. Sometimes it will work with my 50' 10 gauge cord on one job and the next job it will not work even though its pluged right in to the wall. I think I got a lemon. The further the plug is from the panel, the less likely it is to work. Does someone make device that I can add to this compressor that would reduce the startup draw?

Try to use a higher amperage extension cord.
This unit is rated for 15 amps. It should be able to run on a 20 amp circuit unless there is voltage drop due to small wiring. Try an air conditioner extension and let us know the result.

Why does the safety valve go off before the pressure switch on a porter cable 80 gal air compressor

The maximum pressure on most small compressors is 10 bar or 1000kpa which is about 145 psi in the old language most safety valves are set to 150 psi. I suggest you get some one to reduce the pressure switch setting. Running a compressor at elevated pressures does not give you any more air. A reasonable pressure for small compressors is 120 psi

My porter cable 200 psi air compressor will not run

The curcuit breaker on the motor. Probably a little round button that's about the size of a screw head.

Porter cable 135 psi 6 Gal model no. d27420 (homedepot) motor fried ! Can't find replacement, and if i do is it worth fixing? Looks like parts cost as much as compressor

These units are disposable so if the motor is gone, it is garbage. I would try a power tool repair center to see if they have any used motors to repair your unit. Save the tank and use it as a slave unit for a new compressor. This way you will have more volume and the compressor will run less overall making the new unit last longer. If you burnt the motor out on this one, consider buying a larger unit the next time. Hope this helps.

I am thinking of getting a compressor for my husband for christmas...looking at Bostitch and Porter Cable..both 6 gal portable...cost is comparable, in stock at both Lowes and Home Depot. We are going to...

Eighter one of these will work good for nail guns personaly i have the porter cable and i like it i do a lot of construction work. And i think the porter cable comes a finish nail gun for small nails and staples mind did. But there not for running tools that require a large volume of air like air sanders air rachats or air cutters.

The breaker in the motor keeps kicking on and off, is the reset

I'm assuming that you're pushing in the red button to reset it to restart the motor? Check to see what the air pressure is when the compressor shuts off. If it's higher that rated, then perhaps lowering the pressure will prevent the motor overload. If you have an amp meter, check the amp reading and compare it to the amp rating on the motor nameplate.

Trying to wire up my new air compressor, need help with wires.

If you are trying to connect power lines directly to the motor then stop what you are doing, I advise you refer to the owners manual for correct wiring of the compressor. I would highly advise that you seek the service of a professional to hook it up. otherwise you could damage the equipment or worse yourself.

Won't start -Porter Cable Cable 135 PSI, 60 Gal compressor

ARE THE POINTS BURNT IN THE PRESSURE SWITCH? DO YOU HAVE A LEVER ON THE SWITCH SET TO ON OR AUTO? IF YOU THINK ITS THE SWITCH JUST BYPASS IT AND TIE THE WIRES TOGETHER TO SEE IF IT RUNS. BEWARE YOU HAVE NO PRESSURE PROTECTION EXCEPT POP-OFF VALVE. MOST P.O.S. COMPRESSORS LIKE PORTER CABLE HAVE 3500 RPM MOTORS AND HAVE A THERMAL RELEIF BUTTON ON THEM. JUST PUSH TO RESET. MAKE SURE YOUR WIRNG OR DROPCORD IS LARGE ENOUGH GAUGE. SMALL GAUGE DROPCORDS KILL COMPRESSORS.
