Using Pentax lenses from 35 mm on the digital camera.....
Had Pentax 35 mm film camera. Given an ist DS digital body. Not doing something right, obviously, to use the old lenses. Told they should work. Figure have to do manually, not auto. Just need to know what to do. I do have one auto lense.......wide-angle. Works fine. Others don't. Would appreciate any help you can give me.
I install the lens from my 35MM camera but cannot get the camera to take a picture. Also, I great difficulty getting the lens to release for removal. Any ideas as to why the camera won't take the picture or why the lens is so difficlut to remove?I install the lens from my 35MM camera but cannot get the camera to take a picture. there is a setting for releasing shutter with no lens, you must set this before using old lenses on DSLR, download manual if you dont have a printed manual. page 101http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/s...there is a setting for releasing shutter with no lens, you must set this before using old lenses on DSLR, download manual if you dont have a printed manual.

What lens mount do you have on the lens? In other words, with what make film camera did you use the lens? A DSLR from the same company should be able to use the lens.
Although your lens is an older manually operated K mount and will physically fit onto your camera, there are incompatibilities which limit the level to which it is compatible with your *ist DS.
Ignoring the really obvious difference that your lens is totally incapable of autofocus, the first real incompatibility is that your camera body has one of the "crippled" versions of the KAF (autofocus) mount. This means that it lacks the mechanical stop-down coupler/indicator used on the original K mount. The result is that your camera body does not sense which aperture the lens is set to and will not stop the lens down to the selected aperture when you press the shutter release. The full specification KAF mount maintains these old mechanical legacy couplings, but as most owners don't use older lenses any more the crippled KAF isn't an issue to most users and significantly reduces manufacturing costs. Crippled KAF lenses can still use some manual K lenses, but only the ones which have the A setting on the aperture ring and your lens pre-dates this development.
Your only realistic fixes for this are to either replace the camera body with a model supporting the full KAF mount (expensive) or to use later K lenses with the description SMC Pentax A instead of earlier SMC Pentax M. You'll still lack autofocus but as long as the lens aperture ring is set to the A position then it will work when the body is set to shutter priority and Automatic modes. There are far more Pentax A lenses remaining in good condition than Pentax M so you should have no trouble finding them, but because of their compatibility with later mounts you'll find that prices are somewhat higher.
Note that there is no adaptor which will allow you to improve compatibility between your present camera and the lens you have asked about.
I hope that I've answered your question, if so please take a moment to rate my reply. If not, perhaps you should add a comment to further explain in which way your camera doesn't work with your lens and I'll then try to assist you further.
If u used to have a Pentax camera, i would recommend you buying a Pentax DSLR, because Pentax film lenses still works on Pentax DSLR. I still use some of my prime lenses on my K10D.
I've got the same problem. The problem is that the lense is loosely attached to the body. What you need to do is that when you see the Av flashing, press the lense of the camera to the body and twist the lense to the left a bit. This tightens the connection. You can then take the photo.
All canon EF lenses (and compatibles e.g. Sigma EX) can be used with both analog and digital EOS-bodies. Depending on the sensor size (usually smaller than a 35 mm negative) a crop-factor due to the smaller field of view must be considered.
Example: Canon EF 50mm/1.8 lens used on a digital EOS (40D, crop factor 1.6) equals a 80mm lens (50mm x 1.6) compared to analog cameras using 35mm film.
Some digital EOS-models can also use EF-S lens-series.
Depending on which series (screwmount, K, M, etc) you have, you'll get different levels of functionality, but yes -- all Pentax lenses for 35mm and DSLR (except for the medium-format digitals) will work with your K200D. Read the manual.
