Door springs are located at the left and right side of the door bottom. You will have to pull the unit a few inches from the installed location to see them. If broken, replace. If one slipped off, reattach.
Could be that, the spring may have unhooked or it could be a defective damper connected to the door. Remove the side panels and check the operation of the door mechanism. (This will probably require the removal of the rear panel to gain access to the necessary fastners).
Check the Vibration damper rods to be sure that... 1. They are there and mount is solid. 2. If they are broken in 1/2. 3. The plastic knuckle mounts are not missing/broken. 4. There is oil in the shock absorber/spring section of the rods.
Also - there are suspension springs on the bottom of the tub that could be broken and/or missing.
Replace/repair as necessary.

one of the nylon rope which connects the door hinge to the door spring is broken.usually with time the rope wears out and break.it is preety easy fix. u have to pull the unit about half way out and look for ropes on lhs and rhs bottom of the unit.buy the rope kit(it comes with 2 ropes and plastic roller unit.). just see the one which is not broken and accordingly install the broken one.usually u dont have to install the new rolers unless they are broken.
You have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo)
and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.
Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I
made) that demonstrates how it's done.
You can find helpful exploded views by entering your full Kenmore model number at the Sears
parts site.
A full Sears/Kenmore
model number has 3 digits, a dot, then 8 more digits, such as
###.########
Please be aware that you may have a broken spring mounting tab on the inner door panel.
In such cases, the best way to fix that is to drill a hole in the remaining material, insert the spring, then add a dab of epoxy where they spring attaches to the panel.
