SOURCE: Remove the write protection on 2GB USB Kingston Data Traveler 100

Found this on Kingston site, doesn't help much but may point you in the right direction.

Unfortunately this unit does not have any security or write protection feature. If you receive a write protection message with this drive, check for the following:

  1. Verify that you are allowed to write to removable storage devices. There may be a security setting in the OS that disables write access to removable storage devices.
  2. Make sure you have not enabled write protection on the drive by using a third party software.
  3. If none of the above apply, the drive may be defective.

SOURCE: Hi ,i having 1GB of flash drive of Transcend

I sense that your usb memory is equipped with a physical write protect switch that you may have overlooked. Locate it, switch to the "non-writeprotected" (unlocked) mode and everything should work normally. Good luck!

How do i format the kingston datatraveler 310 256 gb to ntfs file system

Hello insert the drive in the usb port.

When you see the drive in the control panel, right click on it and choose format.

Select NTFS in the selection box, and mark quick format and click start.

This could take a while.

You just have to save ALL the previous saved files, before you format, because the files will be lost, when the the drive is formatet.

Good luck

It automatically have a a write protection and i cant save any files nor format my usb flash drive 4GB

Contact the manufacturer directly; you can find their homepage with Google. Tech support will tell you how to solve this problem for your USB key.

Some common USB vendors are:

http://www.patriotmemory.com

http://www.kingston.com

http://www.sandisk.com

ONLY the vendor can help you with this, so contact tech support right away. If your drive is actually defective, they can issue an RMA number so you can return it for a new one.

is there any data on this usb 4gb drive if so you might try opening and deleting the files separately
insert your pen drive
click start click on my computer you should see your pen drive
right click then select format
another way is to control panel administrive tools, computer management disk management right click on your drive select format
or you could try some of these
click start control panel administrive tools, computer management ,disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now, start
if this does not fix the problem you might try
click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager scroll down universal serial bus controllers you should see a yellow question mark?
right click to reinstall drivers or
if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver or
scroll to disk drives if you can see your drive + to expand right click you should see options to update driver, disable, uninstall scan for hardware changes. or
select properties you should see options in the general tab to troubleshoot, policies, volumes, driver and details under the driver tab you will have the options to check the driver details, update driver, rollback driver or uninstall

hope this helps

Follow these instruction and the work will be done..

Click start
Click Run
Type "CMD"
Hit Enter - A black screen should now appear (this function can be achieved by selecting Start---->Programes---->Accessories---->Command Prompt)
Type "diskpart"
Wait untill you get "DISKPART>" then type in "select volume (blank)" fill in the blank with the letter of the drive you are trying to remove write protection from
Now type "attributes volume clear readonly"

Remember select correct letter otherwise u will loose data of other drive..

e.g; if your Flash USB drive is F then type F there..
