Sony NW-A1000 will not play,

When i switch on the unit the walknam logo appears etc, then the spinning disc appears, spins for a while then the unit goes blank, the unit isn't recognized by the PC, when i connect with the USB etc the unit lights up but after the spinning disc stops the unit goes blank, i've tried charging it but as above it goes blank, i have also pressed the reset button but nothing has helped the situation, i contacted Sony but they say i need to send it back for repair, it's out of warranty & surely it will just need a few buttons pressing etc, Please help

Unit swithches on, then spinning disc appears, stays on until screen goes blank and unit switches itself off. pressed all manner of combinations of the buttons, nothing happens. Tried reset button, nothing happens. Connection to computer solves nothing. Am trying to run battery down and then start again but proving difficult cos unit keeps switching itself off after approx 1 min. Any ideas?

No songs. Connect compliant software and transfer songs. I can play the music through my computer but not through the MP3 player. I think I have tried everything possible. Reset does not work.

If you get the spinning disc error on your sony nw a1000 it means the hardrive is knackerd.
The hardrive in the sony NW A1000 is a segate ST1.2 6gb and these can be bought off ebay for around £8. If you can't find a 6gb one you can fit an 8gb hardrive BUT your NW A1000 will only use 6gb of it.

If you search on the internet you can find instructions on how to remove the back cover of your NW A1000 which is very easy to do! You then unplug the hardrive (be very careful!) and replace it with the new seagate hardrive. Turn the NW A1000 on and go to the home menu, select "settings", then select "intialize disc" and it will format your new hardrive so that it can work with NW A1000.

Have read that if u drop unit it seems to jog the thing back to its origional state. Was dubious but had nothing to lose so tried it and it worked. (I did only drop from about 3ft on to floor covering)

this happened to me but by using the reset button help the problem. Have you tried to hold it in for a few seconds to see if that helps ?

Music appears on device on laptop but not when playing music

Sony uses it proprietory software for sync with the device. U can transfer the files by just copy and paste cause the device acts as a removable drive, but the player firmware wont recognise the format. I wud suggest u to use Sonic Stage 4.3 to sync with

A1000 not switching on

Try connecting your player to the USB cable to ensure that it is being charged before attempting to turn it on again. You may have to leave it for a short while to get enough charge to start up. Also, try pressing the reset button on the player and see if that makes a difference (You won't loose any songs while doing this)

When i turn my sony nw A1000 it starts up then gets stuck with a cd spinning on the screen until the battery runs the only way to switch it off is by pressing the reset button

your hard drive is dead, you are going to need to buy a new one, you can buy micro drives off ebay of about £30 of you could take it to a sony repair center but that is going to cost.
