Sony Model KP-53s70 (Need a replacement Lenticular/Fresnal screen)

The screen broke and I am having trouble locating a new or used one as the TV is somewhat old - Sony, the manufacturer indicates they only have the Lenticular and that the Fresnal is no longer available. It is a 53' Color Rear Projection but worked fine and looked good.

I reposted because my first try was under the wrong manufacturer.

We just bought a used TV model number: KP-53S70.

It is pretty clear something was jarred loose during the move; these are pretty delicate devices. You should NOT try to repair this yourself. These types of televisions can have LETHAL voltages inside for WEEKS after they are unplugged.

Toshiba 50a60 cracked screen

i have just experienced the same myself, what you need to do is find a tv the same size, it doesnt have to be the from the same manufacturer, although it helps if you can get the same, as all lenticulars do the same job.

The outer screen is called the Lenticular, and the inner is called the fresnal, depending how bad your lenticular is cracked will determine if your fresnal has gone also, the only real way of knowing is when you take it apart to change it, (Dead Easy).

they are quite close together, but dont be afraid of trying, i have never changed one before, but i did it in about forty minutes and i dont know the first thing about tvs and now it is as new.

to change it, all you have to do is unscrew the front of your tv, from the surrounding screws at the back of it, once you have done this there are four or five small screws that hold the front of it up, take these out and your front will come off complete with lenticular and fresnal.

place it face down on a soft surface, so as that you are looking out of the inside of your screen, and you will see the fresnal.

they are held together with four brackets, one on each side of the screen.

unscrew the brackets, and take the fresnal off, then the lenticular.

put your new lenticular in, then the fresnal on top of that, and then secure it together again by screwing the four brackets back on.

it really is that simple, do not let these TV repairmen, scare you into buying a screen from them and charge you an extortionate amount of money to fit it.

im not sure if plexiglass will work, i was quoted £160+VAT for my screen from Toshiba, so what i did, i went on Ebay and found a full tv that was for spares or repairs, and paid £26 for it, and it is just as it was before.

One thing you must not do when attemting to change it, and that is to be scared of attempting it, because once you have done it, and at a fraction of the cost, you like me will curse the people who make a living out of overcharging people for such an easy job!!!!

Good Luck, and hope this has helped..
