Lg Microwave Oven Model LRM1250W gave a fairly loud "pop" when I pushed the start button and since then has not cooked anything. The carousel rotates, the light comes on, it sounds as if the magnetron is engaging because the hum becomes louder. When the cycle is over, the food is uncooked. Help.

That loud hum is an indication that the Magnetron is shorted.

SOURCE: GE Spacemaker XL 1800 Microwave It has a louder than normal humming noise and it isn't cooking anything.

On a GE...with a louder than normal hum and not heating...most likely the mag, but could also be a shorted H.V. diode. Most of the time on those it's the mag, but you better have the diode replaced also even if it seems ok. Most GE's have 10yr warranty on the mag. If you don't know what you're doing leave servicing the high voltage circuit to the pros. Wouldn't want you to have a "shocking experience" or take the risk of exposing yourself/family to any radiation leaks.

You either have a bad magnetron tube (5 or 10 year parts warranty item through GE Factory Service 1-800-432-2737 or www.geappliances.com) or a shorted high voltage rectifier. I think the light being out is a secondary problem.

It's magnetron, but you can test the high voltage trasformer, resistance of windings if to be exact.

Arcing is a sign that the Magnetron is shorting out. Make sure cover, usually plastic, is installed properly covering Magnetron port. It keeps food from entering port. This is a dangerous condition, replace unit.

Intermittant loud "pop" when starting my microwave

Clean well the inside of the oven, if you keep having the problem and the inside is clean, then the magnetron is starting to go.
