The lock is staying open when the door is shuting i need to lube it but dont know how to open it up to do so

The switches that control the lights for open doors are made right into the door latches and they have a history of sticking and causing problems like that.

Here is a technique that often works well and eliminates the problem at no cost.


Get a can of spray lube like WD40 or something like it and has a straw on the nozzle. Spray it generously up into the latch mechanism. Now open and close the door numerous times to work it in. Repeat this process several times. Since you don't really know which door is causing the problem, you should do all of them. It's usually caused by the most frequently used door but it's not guaranteed to be that one.

Hi. This is commonly the door lock. Give them a good blow out and clean and lube. if the issue persists then replace the faulty lock.

Spray the door lock mechanism in the door with a lubricant. It may slightly stuck making the sensor in door read open. Most of the.door latches are incased with plastic and the plastic breaks and jams the latches to so make sure that isnt going on. But be sure to lube all the door latches so they dont stay in open position. Try not to use WD40. It attracks dirt and can gum up the latches. I own a windstar too and have had this problem.

Switch may be dirty or worn out. Or the lock mechanisms themselves need to be cleaned and lubed. I would try cleaning the lock mecahnisms first.

just spray the door latches with lubricant be sure the oil penetrates the internal machanism.

i know this will sound weird but, spray WD-40 in all the door latches (door side). I mean ALOT of it .Open and close all the doors many times and that will solve the prob. :)

Try cleaning the latch with WD40. Work the latch open and close with your fingers and lube it with the WD40.

the latch may need to be cleaned from dirt and dust then sprayed with penetrating lube. It does require removing the latch from the door.

go to your local parts store and buy a can of PB BLASTER lubricant then open each door and spray the latch assembley really good then close and open the door 10 to 15 times. do this with each door. the door ajar light switch is located in the door latch assembley and cannot be seen so soak the latch assembleys really good so lube reaches the switch. these switches sometimes get stuck but this usually frees up the switch

I had this problem on my 2003 explorer and took WD40 and gave the lock mechanism a good dose where it meets the clasp on the door jam. Then open and close the doors a couple of times to get them working. They get gummed up and sometimes have a tendency to stick.
