Yes, this is caused by not disconnecting the microwave from the power line when removing or installing a bulb or by the filaments shorting when the bulb blows. This is a problem with the control panel assembly, which we repair nationwide for $39.95. If you or a friend decide to send it to us, we have *critical* safety and disassembly info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Sounds like the problem is in the high voltage. Most common would be magnatron, capacitor and diode. For safety reasons this should be checked by a professional. Look in your owners manual because some high voltage parts have a longer warranty than 1 yr.

Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:

- bad door switches or door switch mounts
- loose connection at the magnetron
- problem or loose connection on the control unit circuit board
- bad magnetron or other high voltage part (such as a shorted diode)

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and
disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Chances are you have a bad magnetron.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

Frigidaire FFMV164LS 1.6 Cu. Ft. Over-The-Range Microwave. Hello, Can you turn off the turntable on Frigidaire FFMV164LSA? The manual doesn't specify.

Question edited for clarity.

No you can't. The turntable needs to rotate the food or the microwave energy will burn holes in your food. The rotation spreads the heat evenly throughout the food. You can test it by removing the turntable and put a plate on the base with a pound of butter on it. Microwave on full power for a minute. Notice the holes?

DANGER WARNING! Potential Hazard if your microwave was working and now doesn't...

If you have this model microwave and it was working fine, then one day it stopped heating items placed inside there are a handful of different issues that could be the problem. In my case it was intermittent, over a period of a few days it would sometimes work (heat) and sometimes not. NO MATTER if this is what your's is doing or if it stopped heating all together. If you decide to let it dry out, or not use it for a while to see if it was a one time occurrence, or whatever the reason, the first time you put something in and probably for the next 10 times at least (this assumes it starts to work again), make sure you are right there with it while it is cooking. Don't assume you can put something in, go do something and come back when the timer is beeping. There is a chance (as this happened to me) that your food inside will CATCH FIRE! Normal food item placed inside, no metal, nothing different than the numerous times before when this had been cooked but when we smelled smoke we came running. Fortunately it started and finished inside the microwave but that's not a guarantee, it could spread. Play it safe. Never had a problem like this before and never heard of a microwave cooking something until it caught on fire (especially since the time entered for the cook was 30 seconds) but it did.

I just took my microwave out of the box and plugged it in and proceeded to warm my food it came on but never heated. How do I get my microwave to heat?

Put it back in the box and take it back to the store you bought it. It is defective. The magnetron is the part that makes the microwaves. It is not working.

Ge Microwave space saver over range working but

It is a good possibility that the stirrer has failed. In the top of cabinet is a round cover, there is a small round plug in the edge of it,pry plug out and put it in safe place, rotate the cover < twist locks > gently let it down and stirrer will be either setting on cover or still attached. If you notice any damage< it is a round aluminum disc that is flat > then you need a new one. If you don't see any damage put it back in < put in hole and turn until you feel it line up with shaft and push into place,< gently >.Make note of position and put cover back on < stirrer does not lock on shaft so you have to hold it up until you get cover under it in most cases. Run a short cycle and remove cover to see if it turned at all. If not the motor is bad < turns stirrer during operation>. This is the first time that question has been asked of me and it is the only thing that I can think of if it heats glass and not food.

Once I place food in to get re-heated, I noticed that my microwave did not heat the food, even though everything else worked...can you help

time for a new one. the microwave unit is dead, no the oven. the microwave unit is the heart of the oven. so, if that goes, everything else goes.

Microwave not heating every time...

You seem to be having a problem with the interlock device. when you close the microwave door it is supposed to hit a series of 3 switches to tell the microwave every thing is safe and able to run. you may want to take the control panel off and make sure those switches are ok. usually out of the 3 switches top and bottom should be open middle should be closed. you could check with the continuity side of your electric meter.

Let me know if you have any questions before rating me.

Kenmore Microwave Won't Heat Food

The service manual is here.

Unless there's a bad connection at a magnetron terminal, I would say you have a failing magnetron.

It is part number 2B71165R and you can get it from the Pros here for $68.59 (subject to change).
