Hi msdazzling, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
NO OS stated is this XP?????
    windows WHAT?
did the internal speakers ever work
if no, the they can even be missing.
used PC can come in any state of misrepair.
    go to hp web site
load only those drivers for your unstated OS.
we cant guess what you have there, ever.
    must be said.
    here
go to start box, the control panel
    then lick system.
see what OS is there now.
you never said how you upgraded
from what to what? XP to W7? what?

    HP main page.
HP has no support for DV2000
so that tell me , you used hackers disk
    so what disks from whom?
DV2000 is retired to legacy status now.
    means snail dust status.

If you have an audio interfaceyou might try tught clicking on your speaker icon. From there you can find a trouble shoot sound or playback connection.

You need built in speaker driver. Go to settings and you will see a yellow warning sign on your built in speaker driver. Click it to update. You’ll be fine after it’s done

SOURCE: i am using hp pavilion dv2214tu, able to hear from

Hello,

The headphone jack contains a small contact that disables the built in speakers and redirect the audio signal to the headphones. If the jack doesn't do this, probably that contact is dirty or the jack itself has a problem to one of the contacts inside it. You could try some electrical contact cleaner (it'a a spray you can buy from any electronic store) but I'm not sure if it will help or solve the problem permanently.
The best solution would be to replace that jack with a new one. It's not an expensive or tricky repair and any service center should be able to do it without many problems.

Hope this helps,
Bogdan

sounds like it can be the hardware. try to uninstall and reinstall the latest audio driver then configure your speaker settings and volume settings. if this does not work, you may need to get the audio card or motherboard replaced.

I have a dv2000 unit. I upgraded to windows 7 but when I plug the headphone the speaker is also running. both speaker and headphones have sound. What to do?

Right click on your speaker icon in the lower right corner, select audio properties, you can lower the volume of the speakers when you use headphones or you can select a profile from the same screen and select the type of speakers you want to use; headphones, desktop speakers, etc.

Good Luck

Headphones work, on board speakers do not

It's muted. Left click on the speaker symbol. There should be a icon or box to click on to un-mute it.

My hp dv2000 has audio in the headphones but not in the internal speakers

Have you perhaps turned the volume down using the external volume knob on the side or front of the machine? Have you tried the control panel -> audio devices settings to increase speaker volume for WAV devices?[heck, all devices...] Most machines use the same external knob for headphones and the tinny speakers, so that may be a fruitless chase, but give it a try anyway. You could also have a loose connection. Has anyone recently done work on the PC?

Res.sir, i have a hp pavilion dv2000 laptop in this laptop headphone not work

first of all check whether the port is working correctly or not. For that use any other headphones. If they are working then ur present headphone set is gone. Or else if it is also not working then goto control panel -- sound and audio devices and then go to volume --advanced and increase the volume of all the devices present there..and correctly configure Sound Effects Manager which is present in the control panel ..in that u can configure the type of speakers u use or headphones ..there u adjust it to headphone..then the job is done..

Built in speakers don't work.i have sound only when i plugg the headphones

Looks like there is some problem with the stereo headphone connector. As its a hardware issue, I would recommend sending it to the service center.

You may also use external speakers temporarily.
