Had same squealing problem.... had machine checked over. NOTHING WRONG.
Repair people ran it a few times with just water and no squealing at all. they also ran it with detergent capsule [Fairy] No squealing. Have got it back to monitor it. Used Fairy capsules for a few washes and no problems. As soon as I used the Waitrose Essential concentrated dishwasher liquid, the squeak was back with a vengeance.
The moral of my story is TRY NOT USING LIQUID DISHWASHER DETERGENT
The pump motor is beginning to seize up. You may be able to take the dishwasher apart and lubricate the bearings and keep it going for a while, but at some point you will likely have to replace the pump motor assembly.
I confirm what Dot Milton found: switching from liquid detergent to powder fixed the problem for me.
Sorry, haven't got a solution but I have the same problem with my bosch dishwasher too.

It was squealing, not it won't turn on. I think the bearings are ceased.
I have a similar problem ... unit squeals at various intervals however, the dishwasher is only a year old. I would expect a longer life out of major mechanical parts such as motors, pumps, etc.
