my creative zen is frozen. i will reset it. and it continues to freeze. i left it alone for a few days. then charged it and it still will not unfreeze when i begin playing a song. what do i do.

  • drmickey Jul 12, 2008

Whatever software I use (Creative/Mediamonkey etc.) syncing freezes on the first song.
Stangely - copy protected content (WMA) in a separate folder works fine, but unprotected songs (MP3) don't.

Copying files using windows explorer works however.

I've tried updating firmware, reformatting etc.
    Any ideas ?

The player freezes as soon as you select "play". Also freezes when you select FM Radio. I reset with the hidden reset button and it rebuilds and then does the same thing (over and over). I tried running the recovery tool, but it hangs up before finishing. Also tried to format the player, but I can't get it to go to the format screen. Help!

Hi -
I know this response is way late to help you, but I was having the same problem. I could turn the zen on fine, but as soon as I tried to play music it would freeze and I couldn't turn it off. Using the reset button didn't help any since it would still freeze if I tried to play anything.

But I found reformatting the entire zen totally fixed it.

-directions-
Connect your zen to your computer, go to windows explorer, click computer on the side bar, and your zen should be under "portable devices". Click on it. You should now be viewing the "storage media". Right click and select "Format...". This completely resets the zen, clearing any preferences or media you put on it and the freezing problem.

It was annoying putting all the pictures, videos, and itunes back onto my zen, but at least it works now. Since I've reformatted it, I have had no problems.

Hopefully this helps others who experience this problem.

When you encounter a song that is freezing your zen, you need to delete it from the zen. At that point try to transfer it again. If it is copy protected then you may need to remove the copy protection.

The "iTunes format" is nothing more than AAC. The Creative Zen will play unprotected iTunes Plus tracks as well as CD rips from iTunes (M4A). Any DRM'ed tracks that you may have purchased through iTunes will not play on Zen.

google for "hymn project" or "myfairtunes" for iTunes DRM removal. (And for "FU4WM" for WMA DRM removal.)

Alternatively, you can always burn the DRM'd tracks (copy-protected songs), then rip them so they are no longer protected.

Try the reset button on your zen. you'll need a paper clip to reach it.
that should work; it will not erase your data. -Edward

hey people, there is a hidden "reset" button on the player. it will reset the player and fix most problems. you will need a paper clip to press the small button. -Edward

  • Anonymous Feb 09, 2009

to find the reset button, download the zen pdf file from the creative labs site; it's free and it will show you where the button is located. -Edward

I had a problem like that 2!!! basically wat happened was my music icon was all the way at the top and everytime i tried to click it it would freeze. this all started after i downloaded a song and put it on my slow jamz playlist. so wat i did was i changed the icon order by switching it to default. 1. go to the main screen where all the icons are
2.press the options button and it should ask this: configure menu, change order, default menu and volume.
3. try clicking default menu. that cleared up my freezing problem. bcuzi dont use the microphone setting so now even that works!!!!!! juss try doin that if it doesnt work then maybe u should try resetting or if its still under warranty take it to the original store where purchased. sry for the late response.

My Zen wont turn on or off

Try reseting the Zen. There is a small hole on the bottom. Use a straight pen to press the button. After this, the zen should go into a "recovery mode". If all of your songs got deleted, just to to the Creative MP3 Recovery Tool Website, download the tool and go from there.

Have you tried updating the firmware of your Zen V Plus? I've had mine for almost an year and haven't had these issues -- I updated the firmware as soon as I unpacked it.

try downloading the
MP3 player recovery tool from Creative's website (the tool contains the latest firmware update available -- 1.15.03). Plug your ZV+ into your PC, run the program and let it update the firmware. Then format, reload your music and try it.

By the way, before updating the firmware, let the battery have a full charge, ok?

I hope it won't keep freezing on you after the update
