First of all THe Belkin F5u237 is not a USB Drive. It is a USB Hub. If your running Windows XP it should see any device connected to the hub. If it dosen't see anything connected you may need to add the power supply to the hub.

Computer not recognising hard drive. I have even looked in disk management and it's not recognised there either. The hard drive is lighting up when connected so it is working.

HI sineadkirk1

There are several reasons why your hard disk can not be recognised by the computer

1> usb cable problem
2> usb port problem
3> the problem on a computer virus or hard disk
4> computer problem
5> hard disk problem

do the test one by one to ensure that the root cause

ST300003U2 hard drive powers up ok, power light on, message on pc "usb device not recognised " .one of the usb devices has malfunctioned and windows does not recognise it.

Try to plug it in to another PC to see if you get the same message. See if you can run a scan disk on it from Windows to see if it's bad or going bad too.

To be honest, device not recognised is a bad sign. :(

Usb devise not recognised

You probably damaged the drive from sudden disconnection of the signal line. I would suggest trying it on one other computer before considering it trashed.

My ped drive kingston datatraveller 4gb doesnot work in win98

I think you will find that the card works fine but your computer doesnt recognise the card reader properly. Windows 98 does not properly recognise most usb devices but Windows 98SE does although I am not sure if it will recognise usb2 properly.
