Dose it show up as drive letter E:/ underdevice manager in disk drives?(Check out:right clicking my computer icon onyour desktop, select disk manager)
If so,try right clicking on my computer and selecting map network drive.(You'llget the same results by right clicking on network neighborhood icon on yourdesktop and selecting map network drive.)This is the method many people use toassign a drive name (i.e.,letter) to a drive.
How about asking you to format it before you can use it?Then you can recover data from hard drive with datarecovery software like Tenorshare Data Recovery. It can recover data afterdeeply scanning your hard drive to look for lost data.

Am havin a seagate 500 gb external hard disk. when i plug my hard disk, i can see the icon in " drivers and printers" option from where i cannot open the hard disk. i cannot see any folders or...

sounds like you are using win7 64bit maybe? if so then there is your problem, since win 7 came out it has had driver issues with any type of external drive being recconized. Sometimes they work others not at all. If this is your problem, check out windows for their patch(works for some, but not all, worth a try). Another option is to check to see if there is a driver update for your specific type of PC/Mac from the seagate website, and that may solve it for you.

Computer wont recognize the harddrive

It might be the case that the External HDD is not formatted correctly with proper file format. If you are using Windows XP right click on My Computer icon on desktop -> Properties. This will open Computer Management, there click on Disk Management and search for you device, click on the device and format it correctly and it might solve your problem. For other OS version search for Disk Management and then format the External HDD correctly.
Give your feedback here.

If this solve your issue plz rank me.

The icon for my lacie exyernal hard does not show

Here's two suggestions. (If your using Mac OS X 10.x)
Make sure external hard drives are to be shown by clicking "Finder" in the menu bar then "Preferences" and under the "Sidebar" section selecting "External Disks".
Also check that the hard drive is mounting by opening "Disk Utility" by first opening the "Applications" folder then the "Utilities" folder and double clicking "Disk Utility" and in the left sidebar checking to see if your external hard drive is listed as one of the mounted drives. Hope this helps, don't forget to comment/vote if this helped. Thank you.

I bought a external hard drive and want to backup my dvd's on it. What do I need in order to do this?

All you need is a good working DVD ROM and a 2.0 usb port.

Plug in your hard drive to the usb port.
It should install and be ready to use in a few minutes.
    Insert your DVD's
Open My Computer and open your dvd disk (right click on the icon and choose open)
Open My Computer again but this time open your newly inserted hard drive (there will be an icon naming the drive)
Now, just use copy / paste from the dvd to the hard drive (you may have to create folders on the hdd to keep it organized)

    Hope this helps.

    Says unable to print

If you're using Widows XP, the solution may be the driver installation. On some printers, the drivers seem to install properly, but don't enable the printer.

Start by completely uninstalling the printer, and manually delete the drivers if necessary. Then put your driver disk into the CD drive, but when the installer comes up click EXIT or CANCEL.

You then need to go into Control Panel and open the Printers icon. Click on "install new printer" and follow the wizard until it gets to the where it says "install automatically" or "search for drivers". That is where you specify that you have the disk and follow the instructions to point the installer to the location of the printer driver disk. Then select the proper printer and let the system install the drivers that way. Most of the time with Brother Printers that will work.

Driver not detected - backup failed

I assume Seagate suggested you "reinstall" the drivers. If that's the case, you may still need to refresh your computer's device list to properly identify the drive.

If you're running Windows you may try opening "Device Manager" and uninstalling the device from the list, then "detect hardware changes". This may make your computer redetect the drive like it's a new device, but may not.

I suggest phoning Seagate back and ask to talk to a knowledgable tech, not the scripted phoners.

What operating system ARE you running anyways?
