LG dehumidifier developing ice

I own a LG dehumidifier model LHD65EBL, it is suddenly developing ice on the top seam. is it safe to resume using it, is there a simple solution to this problem? i'm afraid to turn it back on for fear that it might burn the house down while everyone is asleep. thanx tom.

Same problem, ice developing on top seam. Turned it off over night and cleaned the filter. Turned it back on the next day and ice formed again. Solution?

Ice is forming on the top front of humidifier. I have turned it off but will try cleaning the filter. I want to know if it is working up to capacity or what.

I have the same LG but can't seem to find the tabs for removing the front panel, so I can clean the coils. Filter has been removed and cleaned, Red light is still on and humidifier won't turn on. Any more specific directions on front panel removal?

    Thank you

First you would need to clean the filter. LG recommends cleaning the filter every 2 weeks on their dehumidifiers. The second thing you need to do is clean the coils periodically. On this dehumidifier it should include a brush for cleaning the coils. It is located on the top of the bucket. To access the coils the following needs to be done:

1.) Unplug the unit from power
2.) Remove the bucket and also the air filter
3.) Remove the front pannel by removing the 2 lower screws and depressing the tabs.
4.) Once the panel is removed you will see the coils. You need to clean them with the brush. Go in an up and down motion to remove the dirt and dust.

Now use the reverse steps to put it back together. If your dehumidifier runs often I recommend you clean the coils about every 3 to 4 months. This is a common problem on alot of dehumidifiers and people think their dehumidifier is broken. Most of the time the coils are just dirty which causes the water to stay between them and freeze. Keep me posted. Also if you found this response helpful, please rate this solution when you get a chance. Thanks - Tech101

Inspection of the coils is step one...If reasonably clean ...your problem is a bad leaking compressor...this will require replacement...my unit was 2.5 years old when this occured..

LG was very good to me and sent a replacement to my home after I sent the defective unit to their service company in my area...

Yes I'm not happy that the unit failed in 2years but LG was very helpful and did make all good..

If you have to clean the coils every 2 weeks you got tooooo many cats..

HI, OUR DEHUMIDIFIER SWEATS ON THE TOP (FORMS WATER BEADS) AND PARTIALLY FORMS ICE.

>check if the steam creating by the dehumidifier is enough or balance to neutralize the fresh air supply of the dehumidifier by not creating a too much moist or more tha 40% relative humidity so that water beads would not form from the top of the dehumidifier unit or from its supply of fresh air.

Ice started forming on top of unit and now it has shut off and won't restart. It hasn't been running efficiently for past few weeks. Can I fix it?

If the surrounding temperature is low enough the condensing elements of a dehumidifier ice up just like the cooling plates in a frig. Either reduce the power or raise the surrounding air temperature.

A large block of ice formed over the entire front where the vent is. Basement temp was apprx 64 degrees F, but this model is supposed to operate at lower temps. Discovered after it was running continuously...

35 is way low; why not 50%?

At the cooler temp you may need to also run a small fan or space heater blowing on it.

It is working, but the setting is too low and the temp in the room is too low

I need hose connection

Store bought products like these are extremely hard to get parts. Your best bet is to contact the manufacturer, but don't expect much assistance from them.
