Hearing ONE beep is normal, and a signal that the computer hardware is OK.

Hearing THREE beeps is a signal that something is wrong:
* burnt-out CPU,
* one of the fans is not spinning (clogged?) or spinning too slowly (about to seize-up),
* one of the RAM chips is defective
* the video-card is not working

If there is more than one RAM stick, remove all but one stick, and start it up, to see if it starts.

Check that the fans are spinning freely.

What causes a pc motherboard cannot turn on ?

Do any lights come on at the case? eg at the front or on the port where the network cable is plugged in.
Does the psu fan spin when turned on?
If you can open the case, there is usually a green(?) led on the motherboard that lights up when powered on.
If nothing is happening, it could be your power supply. Try swapping it with a spare one (check that it is a standard pin layout.
Look at ebay, local pc store etc for a cheap atx psu tester to see it the power supply is ok. Or google how to jump start a pc power supply with a paperclip and/or test with a cheap multimeter - usually with the green and black wire from memory. (careful playing with electricity though and read up on how to not short out your computer and damage something else).
Otherwise, the motherboard itself may be dead.

My laptop turns on but has black screen. power plug light comes on and the power on light comes on but nothing else. the hdd light does not come on or blink, flas or anything. the hdd sounds like it is...

if turning it on with no RAM installed doesn't make it beep to indicate no RAM, it's sounding like it is the motherboard that is damaged.

If the computer is still under warranty, I'd suggest taking advantage of that warranty to have the motherboard replaced. If not, you are better off just buying a new computer.

My Thinkpad G41 does not boot up, nothing comes up

Hello

Have you tried swapping out ram modules? This would probably be the cheapest. And, a faulty ram module gives a beep code. Try it, and let me know.

Kind regards
Andrea

Cant get computer to

Disconnect everything from the motherboard except the power supply, CPU and power switch.

Turn on the computer. You should hear 3 beeps because you removed the memory.

If you don't hear any beeps, check the power supply. Check all the connections. Did you connect the 4 pin power? Did you skimp on it? A common mistake is to get a cheap, high-power supply. Just because the box says it's 1000 WATTs doesn't mean that will carry a steady load.

Still nothing...

It's either a bad motherboard or processor. If you have another processor that is supported on that board and you know it works, try it. If it boots return your CPU for a good one.

Unfortunatly, if it doesn't boot with a known-good processor that just proves the board is bad; it doesn't prove your CPU is good. You may have more issues.

Nothing comes up on tv when i turn ps3 on and controllers wont connect

Read this very carefully. Turn off your ps3 from the back. Then turn it back on wait unit the light is red. Turn on the system through the front keep holding the power on. You will hear a beep one time that just tell you that the ps3 is powering on keep holding the button until you hear the second beep this will rest your video setting. If that dosnt work call me at sony

A7V8X NOTHING HAPPENING,

When a power supply goes out the way yours did, it's going to fry the MB 99% of the time. So you're going to need a new MB. It's possible that you CPU is ok, but that could also go too. I would replace the MB first, then the CPU if that doesn't work.
