Duro Therm air conditioner

Hi
My air condtioner gets down to temperature and then shuts off and ten seconds later comes on again. Someone said there is a auto control in the air condtioner that I should change to manual. How do I do this?

Most likley this is caused by a pressure switch dropping out then making again after the pressure drops off. Try cleaning your coil on the outside on the roof as most likley it is a high pressure switch causing this problem.

At night its shuts down when the therm is satisfied, but trys to restart right away and when it does start it shuts down right away and just keeps doing this

The thermostat has a differential built into the temperature sensing operation. The differential is normally a degree or more. If the stat shuts down at 72 degrees it should not start the unit again until the temperature in the room reaches 73. If the AC runs and cools properly until it shuts down, I would check the thermostat. The AC can not restart immediately after it shuts off because the pressures in the system are too high at the compressor. It takes a few minutes for the pressures equalize allowing the compressor to start. If the stat tells the unit to start under high pressure, the compressor will shut down on overload. It will start and run after the pressure falls enough for the compressor motor to run.

Fan comes on; however, can't get the desired temperature to set. I select it and two seconds later it shows a higher temperature.

Hi Kate, When you press the button for your desired temperatre setting it will show this temp' say 17*c for a few seconds then it will revert back to showing the actual room temp' say 23*c, it should then cool the room down to what you set it at. hope this helps.

Duro therm , penguin 2 1988 model

ADDING FREON IS A LITTLE MORE COMPLEX AND BEST LEFT TO A PRO, YOU CAN MAKE SURE THE FAN IS OILED AND THAT THE FINS ARE CLEAN, TAKE NOTE IF YOU SEE A OILY SPOT ON THE UNIT THIS MAY BE THE SIGN OF A FREON LEAK ,, IT MIGHT BE WELDED AND RECHARGED .. THATS MORE BETTER THAN BUYING A NEW UNIT CUZ THESE AINT CHEAP ! JAY THE POOL PUMP GUY IN LONGWOOD FL

The air conditioner cools the room but it shuts of. The power light doesn't come on while unit is on. Can I replace the plug?

"The air conditioner cools the room but it shuts of." -- Temperature reached, but does not turn back on automatically? Stops short of reaching temperature? Shuts off for a period, but will come back on only to shut off again later?
Most importantly, how do you get it to turn on again?
"The power light doesn't come on while unit is on." -- If the unit is on and the power light is not, then the power light must not be operating (is burnt out).
Actual answer: "Can I replace the plug?" -- Of course you can.
What is causing you to feel that the plug needs replaced?
:o).

Correction to my original problem

Sounds to me like your contactor switch is not fully disengaging when unit shuts off. The reason I think this is even though the unit itself shuts off there is still power going to the contactor but, once you shut power off to contactor by shutting off breaker you release contactor since there isnt any power left to cause switch to continue to be energized.

Duro-therm rv roof a/c..model 57915.331...compressor coming on..fan not running..after a couple min. breaker trips....fan will not run on manual or auto...help,blackie williamson

Either your fan is stuck due to age or grime or is shot

if the fan does not provide cooling then the unit goes into thermal protection mode and shuts down

Duo Therm Thermostat

Hi there

I think this is a setting on your air conditioner, the air conditioner will turn off when the room is at the correct temperature and when the room starts to warm up, the air conditioner will turn back on. (You need to find the settings and change them from auto-adjust to manual-adjust)
