The life span is relevant to the particulate matter in your water. Find dirt (which is normal) damages the o rings. Your description did not specify how the units were failing. You may consider a prefilter, but that is also a maintenance concern. Forntunately, your faucet has lifetime warranty, but that is little help when you need to change the cartridge all of the time.
MAybe a whole house filter, to take out the big chunks...
Good advice for anyone is to NEVER but/install ANY aftermarket cartridge in a Moen single handle faucet. In all these decades I have never see a single one that worked out. They either stick from the off position, bind, leak, etc, etc, etc. ONLY use genuine Moen cartrifges! Brass or plastic; doesn't matter. Just use OEM Moen. I actually now prefer plastic only because after 5 years, you usually have your hands full getting a brass one out do to green corrosion. But thet's just me.
