The Yamaha Reciever RX-V465 is connected to my digital TV by fibre optic cabel. I have sound when I connect my MP3 to the V-Aux and the speakers are displayed on the display window of the Reciever same as with the radio. However, when I change to AV1 to watch TV the speaker's displayed on the reciever screen disappear from the display window and there is no sound through the speakers of the yamaha unit.

So i just bought a Yamaha Stereo Reciever The model is RX-V377 I have it hooked up to my stereo system correctly and it sounds great. But the only thing I have managed to hear out of my speakers on the...

The unit has five HDMI sockets, the first on the far left (looking at the back) is for sending video and and audio out to the TV. All the others are inputs. If you want to hear the TV via the unit and speakers you must connect via the one of the four other HDMI. Or if your TV has optical or coaxial output you can connect it via those settings. It will also pass Dolby Digital signals to your Receiver if the TV can do so.

Check the settings on receiver in the SETUP menu / HDMI / Audio. Here you can choose Amp (sound goes from the speakers connected to receiver), TV (receiver is muted and sound is routed via HDMI to TV) and Amp+TV (sound goes from speakers and also to TV).
Also check in OPTION menu / Signal Info that receiver is receiving sound in recognized format.

Haveing trouble syncing the sound with lips is there a trick to do this? also whats the best setting to get the best true surround sound by the way i have Rx-v465 with klipsch 300 home theater speakers.

RX-V465 has auto-sync feature over HDMI. So if you have your DVD and TV connected over HDMI, receiver will communicate with your TV and set the delay automatically based on TV processing speed.
You can turn auto-sync on in Setup menu / Sound Setup / Lipsync / HDMI Auto.
Or if that doesn't work for you, you can set a value in milliseconds manually in the same submenu.

Yamaha rx-v456 av receiver, shut down with optica cable

Does it work without PS3 attached?
When receiver turns off, it is usually due to badly connected/configured speakers. Try powering on the receiver without speakers.

How do i assign audio from optical AV to hdmi4?

Hi, unfortunately this is not possible on RX-V465. HDMI can have sound only from HDMI. All A/V inputs are paired, except for analog Audio 1-2, to which you can assign any of the analog video AV1-6.

But you can connect the video via HDMI directly to your TV and connect only audio to receiver via optical AV1 or AV4.

I need to use my TV as the speakers for my system..what is the setting on the Yamaha RX-V465 to do this?

For what do you need receiver if you don't want to use its speakers?
As far as I know this is only possible for HDMI connections (when you have your DVD player connected to HDMI-in of receiver, and HDMI-out to the TV). Go to Setup menu / Func. setup / HDMI / Audio. You can choose there if audio from HDMI should be output on receiver's speakers, or TV speakers, or both.

How to connect dvd player to AV reciever

S-Video is a media type that only carries video. Unfortunately the LG unit was designed only to be a self contained surround sound unit. There are only video outputs to the television on this unit. Because of the unit having surround sound capabilities, LG felt that their wasn't a need for audio output. You would need to buy a new DVD player to allow audio from the DVD to your new Yamaha unit. Good Luck!
