Sentry h0700 headphones can be used with a TV, PC, or notebook. I use the wireless, and when the batteries are off, I attach the cable and keep using them as regular headphones while my batteries are charging. If you hear the radio just pres reset than pres scan again. That should do it. Works for me and the sound is just fine! I paid 10$ for them, I think they are pretty amazing considering the price. I would choose something smaller and better quality if I want to use it outside with a portable device.

Ho can i get sound working on makita radio

OK, I do not know which model of radio you have but if it is similar to DMR105, try doing a "factory reset".

It is also possible that one of the following has happened:
The station you were listening to had a break in transmission. - Try another station.
You have lost the radio signal. - Try another station.
Your battery has run flat. Change battery/power source.

On AM radio, there is often a sound, like a hammer hitting a 55 gal. drum interrupting the program. Does not do it on portable radio carried in the car.

all stations AM?

is the engine running?

for get the portable, some have vastly better a/m radios than any car has. in fact many cars radios a/m OR of horrid quality.

i can tell you why but its boring. (AGC, read up on that)

did you try the radio in car, parked say across town.?

did you try all stations

are you like 1 block away from an AM radio station, overloading yours.

AM radios are basically noise making radios., that is why FM was invented to stop that noise, (i cant hear it so.........?????)

are you listening to far away stations, this is normal

in fact you might hear 2 stations on same channel (freq)

and they will beat against each other.

on case of is in S.Calif where your station is clobbered by high power mexican stations 50,000 watts. strong.

and worse a night, does it get better in the day?

here is my advice, many AM stations have a rebroadcast on FM.

go there and listen. (use SAT radio?)

AM radio is subject to vast sources of noise.

ignition noise., high voltage power transmission line noise.

machinery noises, (electric)

or even illegal transmitters in your hood.

many new cars the AM radio is junk, they use this very cheap

chip inside that does this very poorly, but allows them to say

it has AM. ( for $1 cost)

the FM side is 10x better, or more. move up to FM like we all did back in 1967. (i used to build and sell converters back then)

answering for , all other modes work perfect, but AM radio..

Transmissions sound like they are being made from a bathroom? lots of echo and muffled sound

Hi,

I've recently answered a similar query in this regard, so I'll give you info as to way this usually occurs.

When people use their radios, they tend to hold them or the remote microphone, too close to the mouth and talk or yell loudly, thus causing the problem you are hearing. people need to use microphones, whether remote or radio, correctly, have the mike held between 3-6 inches from the mouth and speak in a normal, even tone so that the person(s) they are contacting can hear them clearly.

It's a fact of life, that people treat their radios like cell phones, and that's unfortunate. From what you have stated, there is nothing wrong with your radio, rather the loud 'mic in the gob' people at the other end.

I hope I have answered your query.

Cheers,
Peter

Do the Uniden walkie talkie (UHO36SX) on listening mode (RX) normally give out a loud rushing noise? It would be impossible to have it on in a quiet place waiting for someone to talk.

No, the radios should be silent (squelched) when not receiving a transmission. Appliances (computers, televisions, even refrigerators) can generate enough "hash" to break the squelch and give you that "rushing" noise. Make sure that the radios are at least 4 or 5 feet apart, and try moving them to different locations to clear up the problem.

All digital trunked TGs are garbled. Can't hear

You may find the agencys are running encryption on their networks to prevent people from listening in depending on what country you are in and what agency's you are trying to listen to. To date i know that the encryption is very secure here in aus and cannot be broken or de scrambled

ATT. what is it and what does it do?

att is attenuator. It reduces the strength on incoming signals. It is meant to mainly reduce the signals of STRONG LOCAL stations that are blocking your reception of other stations adjacent channels. Or, if your are listening to the STRONG LOCAL staton but they sound distorted or muffles, turning on the attenuator (att) might clear up the sound of their transmission. It is alos used to just reduce the sensitivity of your scanner so that you will only hear local calls, like a local/distant switch would do.

Poor transmission

Its hard to tell exactly whats wrong without some more detail. I am assuming that these are 15 channel FRS walkie talkies? If they are than what you have is 2 FM 2 way radios that operate in the 450 mhz region. FM is usually really clear at both close and far distances. With AM radios its possible for the transimission to be distorted at close distances. First you want to check if this is a transmit problem (tx) or a recieve problem (rx). The easiest way to do this is to listen to other peoples transmissions and see if you can undertand them and if they are clear. Push the monitor button or whatever function there is on that particular radio to turn the squelch off. What you want is to hear static so you will be able to hear other people talking on other handhelds that are using different tones than you or might be too far to break squelch. You want to hear everything. Check how other people transmissions sound..... if they are hard to understand like a transmission from you other handheld does. If the other radios you pic up sound clearer....try using yours again.... but give it some distance... The speakers in these thing are not the best to begin with. Try that out and let me know your results... try to desribe what your hearing in detail.... like "garbled" "distorted" "low audio" stuff like that so I get an idea of what your hearing. Try it out
