Amana neither fridge nor freezer getting cold enough

I bought a used Amana bottom freezer refrigerator a month ago, and just starting today the freezer is not getting cold enough to freeze, and the fridge is not getting cold enough to keep the milk from spoiling. Although the fan is running, it's not getting cold enough, even when I put it to the highest setting possible. The two things I've noticed is that fan is blowing room temperature air out of the back of the fridge, and there is A LOT of frost on the back of the freezer wall. I don't know if these are two good or bad things (since I know little about fridges)

Thank you. I melted it off last night, and it is working perfectly today. Now, since this is only a temporary solution, would you be able to give me more specifics on how I can pinpoint the fault (or would that best be done by me calling an expert in)?

I have an Amana ARB220RCW bottom freezer. In the last week the freezer is not freezing hard and food is starting to defrost. The fridge seems to be working ok.

You maybe will struggle if you hav'nt done anything like this before
with back panel off freezer still, look for the defrost heater and check for continuity through it. also there is usually a thermal fuse or cutout in series with it. check for continuity thro this as well. after that, probably a fault in the main pcb. appliance should function for a week or more now depending on how often you open the door

The defrost system has failed. to get it working temporarily, take the back panel off inside the freezer. melt ice off with a hairdryer.
after that, fault can be in several areas - defrost heater, thermal fuse or the main pcb

To fix up a frosted up vents, I had a control board replaced for $180. Then 6 months later, the bottom freezer frost up AGAIN. rather than dumping more money to fix it, I was about to buy a new fridge, but had a crazy idea: I disconnected the water to the freezer, bought plastic trays for ice cubes for $3 at walmart. Fridge has worked like a charm for 6 months. no signs of frost. Saved $1000's.

Frost is building up in bottom freezer. Amana ABB2224DEW

I have this problem as well, only nobody is leaving anything open. The defroster is defective of these things and the duct between the fridge and freezer gets frozen over and the cold air can't get in the fridge, so the freezer keeps working until it's blue in the face.

The top freezer cools like a fridge, the bottom fridge is warm

The fluxating temps bottom to top and top to bottom freezing are a result of the "air damper and baffle assy" not functioning properly. I would attempt fo make my case with LG that this started while the unit was under full warranty and persists today.

Fridge not getting cold enough

The cold from the freezer is piped up to the refrigerator and if that tube gets clogged with frost or ice it will not be able to blow to the cold air into the refrigerator area. I took everything out, unpluged the unit for about 6 hours, till all the frost from the freezer was gone, wiped up all moisture and turn it back on. It worked!

Freezer too cold, fridge not working - Amana freezer on bottom

Something tells me you are right.
I'm sure you know that cold air seeks the lowest point, in your case, the freezer drawer.
About every combination unit I have ever seen uses a fan to 'stir' the air in a controlled manner and one or more adjustable vents to allow you to balance the distribution of the cooled air.
I'd place my bet on the failure of a (possibly Chinese) fan motor that isn't turning anymore.

Amana bottom freezer problem

It sounds like the condenser coil might be freezing up. This happened to me on my bottom freezer. The cooling part of your fridge is only in the back of the freezer compartment. The cold air from the freezer blows up through a vent in the back to the fridge and comes out at the top. If the coils do not defrost (which is what happened with mine) the air flow is blocked by the ice and can't get to the fridge compartment. Your freezer will still be cold but your fridge won't. If you pull the plug on it and time things right you can defrost the coils but this will only postpone the problem. Both will work for awhile again until the coils ice up again. You can also pull out the freezer drawere and try to defrost the coil with a blow dryer. You have to disconnect the icemaker and pull out the back panel behind the freezer to get to it though.

Refrigerator will not get cold, but freezer works

Make sure your fan is working ,its located behind the freezers back wall. If it is working the vent from the freezer down to the refrigerator may be blocked (usually with ice). With out a fan you have no circulation but your freezer may look likes its working,it may last 3 days. Also if you can move everything out unplug it turn it off w/ doors open untill all traces of ice are gone this will free up any clogged tubes. Good luck.

Refrigerator will not get cold, but freezer works

Do you know if the compressor in the back is running? If you can check that out get back to me and we can go from there. Most times if the fan in the freezer is running the defrost timer is ok.
