I just purchased two Husqvarna Viking #1+ programmable embroidery cards from a seller on ebay. Their listing stated that using a reader/writer the card would work with the Scandinavia 300/400, Rose, Iris, and #1+/Orchidea. I have both the 400 and an Iris. My reader/writer works off a USB port (part 412 7249-01) and would not write a design to either of the two cards I received. The only visible difference I could see between the cards I just purchased and those I already owned, is my cards have the number "512" in the lower right-hand front corner. The Seller claims these cards are supposed to work with my machines, but they don't....... any thoughts or suggestions? Thank you for your help

SOURCE: Reader/Writer for Viking Rose-Do I have to replace?

I would reccomend that you go to the dealer and think about upgrading your machine, I used to have a Rose. I upgraded and am happy I did, I think you can get the 4D with some of the new machines...if not deal for it with your new machine.

Does the husqvarna scandavania viking 300 have internal embroidery stitches, like letters/alphabet, and numbers? Or do I have to find a cartridge/embroidery card that has them in order to do embroidery? I...

No, the Scandavania 300 doesn't have embroidery stitches built in. Embroidery patterns come on a memory card; the card reader is on the side of the machine above the power switch. The machine originally came with a card with 25 "sampler" patterns. There are only 20 pre-programmed stitches, including a blanket stitch/hand-look applique stitch. See page 32 the manual, http://manuals.husqvarnaviking.com/VSM/Husqvarna%20Viking/HVManual.nsf/5bc6115484660075c12575d2003f80e3/51860492a45a0af1852575ed00729c00/$FILE/Scandinavia300_manual_EN.pdf , for the list of included stitches. See page 20 for setting up for embroidery.

If you don't have that memory card, some may be available on E-bay. However, you'll need to check that the card is compatible with the Scandavania 300. Most of the cards I've seen on E-bay are programmable ones that require a separate reader/writer that connects to your computer. Many of the writers are not supported for newer versions of the Windows OS; the drivers weren't updated.

I hope this helps.

I dont believe the parallel reader writer will work with Vista. You need to purchase a Husqvarna USB reader writer and problem will be solved.

Your reader writer will not work unless you have the Husqvarna Viking software to drive it. The first level of the software is called 4D Embroidery. Their web site does a great job at showing the features and benefits. It sells for $400 and if you buy it from your local dealer, they usually offer classes. It is not difficult software to figure out.

I have a reader-writer box for a Viking Rose machine that is missing the dongle. Is there any place I could get just the dongle?

The dongle is only available with the software when you buy it. The dongle alone doesn't run the reader/writer box. The dongle is the code key for the software that allows you to send designs to the reader/writer. So purchasing new software (which also gets you the new dongle) is what you'll need to do if you want to send designs to the programmable card. Another issue you may have is that the older reader /writer box that uses a parallel port hook up, doesn't work with the new software. So if you have an old reader /writer, you'll also need a new usb reader / writer box. The new reader / writer also comes with a new programmable card.

Husqvarna Embroidery card reader/writer

Hi - I think you have a Viking Designer 1, which has a slot for a floppy disk on the side of the machine. If so, you need to purchase embroidery software that supports file type .sv1, and you will need to buy floppy disks.

You can buy embroidery software from Viking that will allow you to write design files onto floppy disks, but you can find other embroidery software packages that support the D1 which cost quite a bit less - make sure that file type .sv1 is supported before you buy.

Viking does sell designs that come on a D1 floppy disk. You can just pop the floppy into the machine, select you design, and go. You can find Viking designs online from time to time, but before you buy, ask if a floppy is included - the newer Viking design packages come with a DVD but might not include the floppy for the D1.

Hope this helps, Ginny

If you have a Viking #1+, you won't be able to use floppy disks with your machine. Please repost and I'll tell you what to look for.

4D Extra and Reader/Writer

QUESTIONS:
is the reader writer a USB or parallel cord? (they have both.
If it's USB you need the 256K card otherwise the regular card, and yes it can work you just have to have the right card for your reader writer.

#1 Viking Embroidery #13 Set.

Use any card that has the On/Off in the bottom right og the card (1). You have to know what number is you design so you can push that number after selecting on/off. Make sure you programmed emb card is in the machine. You can use another card if you do not have the generic numbered card with on/off and the hoop positioning E on the right side of the numbers 1 to 35 designs.

Husqvarna 1+ programmable card

To the second poster with the malfunctioning "card" - do you mean the insert panel/card (overlay) with "E" on it? If so then there is no programmable feature to it. The overlay has notches in the left edge that presses a pattern of leaf switches on the left behind the case and it uses internal designs in memory. If on the other hand you mean that little memory card that you can use with the reader/writer and goes with the "0" (zero) card/overlay then you can get them from a Husq-Viking dealer, or keep an eye on used ones on ebay.

Most dealers sell the "programmable" as a "0" (zero) card set where you get the zero cassette/panel/overlay and the little programmable embroidery card as a set. Most reader-writer sets, either the older parallel port type or the newer 3D/4D USB one will come with one many times. You need to check the dealers and see what they have to offer. The programmable embroidery card is still rather pricey. I'm looking into whether there is some generic type memory card that might work too but have yet to find one and may not since the HV programmable card is likely proprietary since it goes back to the early 90's.
