I am not clear about the configuration of your Onkyo receiver connections. To reset the AV receiver/AV amplifier to its factory defaults, turn it on and, while holding down the [VCR/DVR] button, press the [STANDBY/ON] button. "Clear" will appear on the display and the AV
Are you watching channels from the cable box or a DVD in DVR on the TV through the Receiver? In that case have you connected the cable box and the DVR to HDMI IN inputs of the Receiver. How is the TV connected to the Receiver? HDMI OUT or component out, etc.
If the problem has started recently and you have not changed any setup on the Receiver, then it is possible it is loosing part of the setup memory which is a flash ROM. The good thing is that the receiver has 3-5 years warranty depending on where you are located. So do not try any repairs yourself and make sure you have the purchase receipt somewhere.
Try the factory default reset first and see if this makes any difference to the problem.
receiver/AV amplifier will enter Standby mode.
However, this means you will have to reprogram everything - speaker setup, tuner setup, input /output connection assignment - the lot.
