When I power on my reciever it makes several clicking noises for about 20 seconds then it finally turns on all of my components. This only seems to happen when the unit is turned off for an hour or more.

One thing that is interresting is that this started happening when Cox Communications did an upgrade in our neighborhood. Could the upgrade be confusing my reciever because this only happens when watching TV?

Thank you sir, I will have this looked into by a professional

Hi,

This is usually an indication that either there is a problem with the power supply or there is a short circuiting. I would advise you not to play the receiver as this clicking noise could cause damage to other internal components. You need to open the receiver and check for the faulty wiring or circuitry. Make sure that the receiver is getting appropriate voltage.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

    Thanks for your response!!

This cannot be the case, however could be coincidence. The
clicking generally means that the relay is trying to close but for some
reason cannot.Usually, (but not always) this indicates a problem in the
power supply such as a blown voltage regulator or a zener diode. However, as i mentioned that it would be tough to diagnose the exact fault. Onkyo receivers are quiet reliable, however this is a common cause on most of them.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

When power turned on the tv clicks on of then finally comes on after several mins

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if the television makes a clicking sound.

NOTE: If a Sony® television with the TV Guide On Screen® system is being used, and is not getting a TV Guide signal, a clicking noise may be heard every 5 to 10 minutes. To keep this from happening, perform a factory reset and do not enable the TV Guide On Screen system during the set up.
  1. Change the channel or video input of the television.IMPORTANT: If the noise only occurs on a specific channel or input, the issue may be with the signal being received. It may be necessary to contact the signal provider.
  2. Turn off the television.
  3. Ensure that any Audio/Video (A/V) components are connected to the television properly.
  4. Remove all third party Audio/Video (A/V) components connected to the television.NOTE: If the issue resolved after removing third party A/V components, one of those components is the cause of the issue. To determine exactly which component is causing the issue, reconnect each A/V component independently and check the status after each component is connected.
  5. Unplug television power cord from the AC outlet.
  6. Let the television set without power for 30 seconds.
  7. Plug the television power cord back into the AC outlet.
  8. Turn on the television.
  9. If the issue is still unresolved after completing all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required.

Yamaha HTR-5990 Audio no longer works

MichaelM
Did you ever get this resolved?  I have a similar problem, my video feed seems to work but I have never been able to get any sound from my speakers using this component.  I'm not sure what YPAO setup is but I just read a suggestion to reset the receiver to factory settings in the event something is programmed that causes the problem.

RCA tv makes licking noise when it turns on.

It sounds like you have an arcing solder connection somewhere in the power input to your TV. This is a loose connection somewhere. You might confirm this by jarring the set while it in operation. (Not too hard) If the problem shows up then a loose connection is confirmed. Also a component may be breaking down internally. You need to have a tech check it for you. Stargazer
