I have a Leupold VX 3 4.5-14 x40 tactical scope. How do you adjust the scope to zero(such as when boresighting), and them use the elevation turret to adjust for distance after that. As it is now, even when you adjust the turret all the way up, it is still shooting 4 feet low at 100 yards.

SOURCE: Cannot sight in riflescope for elevation, adjustment is maxed out

Try reversing the rings. Move the back one to the front, and the front one to the back. Turn your elevation adjustment, back to -0-, and start again.

SOURCE: scope elevation adjusted allthe way up & still shoots low

Bushnell sells nylon inserts for scope rings that fit inside of the scope rings and will affect the height of the ring to correct the problem. If you install them on the front scope ring, it will correct it and realign the rings correctly. It appears that the front ring towards the muzzle is not as high as the rear ring near the breach. This is why that even though the scope's adjustment is elevated as high as it will go, it is still hitting low because it is actually pointing down because apparently the rear ring is higher off the barrel than the front ring. The Bushnell inserts can correct this.

SOURCE: I have a 25 year old Redfield 6X18 scope, with an

bullet drop compensation,,,,compleat hog wash!
no such thing in a scope, only a realy pricy one like £1500.00p worth and there not that good! but there coming soon! driven by a lazer for range finding,,,
still your scope has clouded up becouse its leaking
water has got into it, it could be repaired but its not cheap to do, it needs a complet strip down all the class cleand and new seals then a re-gas and it should be as good as new for another 25 years or so,
any good scope with mill dot will work for you, you just need to relurn the bullet drop over again,,and with the years of shooting you have had that should come easy as falling over,,,why not just get a good prised 3/9x40 mill dot and try that out insted, you will be plesently pleased with todays mid priced range scopes treet your self, and save money at the same time

Testimonial: "Both Leupold & Nikon DO have bullet drop compensation reticles, which are similar in principal to the mil-dot. The BDC scopes are becoming very popul"

SOURCE: I'm using a red dot scope on a mossburg turkey gun

Your mossberg turkey gun is fine, 30 - 40 yards is more than plenty for turkey and other game, I'd dont see a point of adding a bigger and better red dot. I converted my mossberg 500 turkey gun into a defender with compstock, heat shield, surefire tac pump mount. sticking to slugs and hatton rounds for three purposes survival, breaching door hinges and, for defense

SOURCE: I run out of elevation when mounting a scope to my

this is not that uncommon when mounting a scope on a rifle, the way to get around it is easy
find yourself a strip of old camera film (35mm) cut a strip off and slip it under the eye end of your scope then nip up the top mount this will drop the point of aim in the scope, i use this every time i have this happen to the guys at my club but dont try to put more that say 3 strips of film under the scope or you wont get it to shoot down low,,,

To move the zero right which way do I turn the dial left or right? I have got conflicting advice and just want to make sure.

There should be an arrow indicating direction on the windage adjustment turret (normally the right side) of the scope. If the arrow is marked left, turn the adjustment knob the other way to move the zero right. To move the bullet point of impact right, move the adjustment knob (dial) right.

In the process of zeroing the scope in I noticed that I can adjust the elevation of the scope up but can't set the adjustment down as far as I need to go in order to be sighted in. This is the first time...

There are a few things that it could be. Make sure you have the scope mounted with the elevation screw on top and the windage screw on the right side. Next, carefully check the distance of the scope from the receiver. If the mounts aren't exactly the same, the scope could be tilted upward. Try switching the front and rear mounts. Make sure you don't have either of the mounts on backwards. Make sure the scope is built for the caliber you are shooting.

If none of these fix your problem, Leupold scopes are guaranteed for life.

Is there a way to lower my turret after i've found my zero? my zero is at the 4th vertical tic mark on the 0.

No. The turret is what it is. If you want to re-set the turret to zero so that it is easy to return to for a specific distance, there should be a setscrew you can loosen, adjust the turret to zero, then re-tighten to lock it in place. If you are simply trying to lower the turret, you need to purchase a scope without target turrets.

Leopold VX11 power adjustment really hard to turn

Take the eyepiece off and clean out the threads with wd-40 or something like that, put on some fresh, light weight oil, a little, and see if it doesn't spin a little better. Sometimes the oil gets gummy and sticky. Hope this helps.

The reticle adjustment knob is turned all the way out (counter clockwise) and still hasn't moved the point of impact to the right enough.

If you have Leupold/redfield style windage adjustable baes you just need to move the windage adjustments. If you don't have these, I would recommend you take your rifle to a qualified gunsmith and have him remount and boresight your scope with this style scope base(s) which should run you about $80.00
hope this helps, Mark the Gunsmith
