Crosley Professional Washer. Why is my washer stopping at beginning of fill cycle?

Question edited for clarity. 'field cycle' to fill cycle.

Do you hear water running? Water inlet valve failed.

or

Taking too long to fill. Check the strainers in the rear where the hose connects and check water flow from the hose.

Also try a power disconnect overnight to do a power reset of the control board.

=============================================
If the cold water supply is slow or not entering the tub at all, the washer will stop ahead of the rinse cycle while waiting for the tub to fill. This can be caused by a clogged water inlet valve, the main water supply valve being partially closed, or low water supply pressure from the home.

WATER IN WASHER WONT SHUT OFF

Hi and welcone to FixYa. I am Kelly. When water wont shut off no matter what you do the problem is inside of the water valve assy. Usually there is a small bit of debris in the diaphram center hole that is holding the water passage open.

Here is what you can try to do to clear if BEFORE replacing the eater Valve.

1. Get a bucket
2. Turn off both water supply hoses momentarily
3. Set the water temp to warm
4. Remove ONE hose from the wall connection and place the hose in a the bucket.
5. Turn on the remaning connected hose/
6. Start machine fill cycle and tap the hose connection at the water valve on the back of the machine with either a screw driver or hammer handle.

Timer OFF

REVERSE HOSE CONNECTIONS ON THE WALL CONNECTION.

7. Place the other hose in the bucket
8. Start Fill cycle.
9. Again tap the hose connection at the water valve
10. Stop timer.
11. Reconnect both hoses and test for water flow with timer off.
12. Start fill cycle
13. Rapidly select hot and cold wash water.
14. STOP fill cycle.
15. Remove each hose individually from the water valve one at a time.
16. Use a knive blade and remove the inlet screen from the water valve. Wash screen under slowly running water rubbing it clean with your fingers. Re install screen. Reconnect water hose.
17. Repeat step 16 for opposite hose and screen.
18. Turn on water supply.
19. Test for proper filling and water stopping by starting and stopping fill cycle.

If it works you got lucky. If you still have the problem you will need to change the water valve. Either one of these water valves will work on your machine:

Water runnning out from bottom of washing machine

Barbarahaps,
I had a similiar problem with a Brand X washer. the problem may be your water pump. if so, it is an easy fix for someone who is mechanically inclined. you first must see where the water is leaking from. when i did this, i securly placed my washer on cinder blocks so that i could see underneath it, and let it fill with a little bit of water, then i could clearly see the water leaking out of the water pump. the key concern here is safety, make sure that the machine fills with only a little bit of water, and then cut the power off to the machine to ensure it doesn't start going through its cycle while up on the blocks, creating a potential hazard. If it is the waterpump, find a washer repair store, tell them the year and model machine you have, and get a water pump on order. the water pump is a pretty straight foward repair--you disconnect power from the machine, turn off and disconnect the water supply, disconnect the drain pipe, and tip over the washer to expose its under side. you disconnect the hoses going to the water pump, remove the attaching bolts, and install the new pump. then you hook everything back up and you should be good to go. hope this helps.

Smoke

Your complaint is a bit vague but since it had only been in the cycle for 1 min., it should have been too soon to have enough water to start washing, so it's possible that the fill valve may have shorted out. Unplug the washer and inspect the area where your hot and cold fill hoses connect to the washer. Turn the water off and remove the hoses. If you can gain access to the part that the hoses were connected to, you should be able to visualize where the burning came from. It is possible a small water leak may have dripped onto the coils of the valve and caused it to short out, so that will need to be fixed also.

Hopefully, This is what your problem is.
