Introduction The HP All-in-One can receive faxes automatically or manually depending on the Auto Answer setting. If the Auto Answer option is set to On (the default setting), the HP All-in-One will automatically answer incoming calls and receive faxes after the number of rings specified by the Rings to Answer setting. (The default Rings to Answer setting is five rings). Refer to the given instructions to receive faxes automatically or manually. Receiving faxes The HP All-in-One can receive faxes automatically or manually. Receiving a fax automatically To receive faxes automatically, set the Auto Answer option to On (the default setting). The HP All-in-One will automatically answer incoming calls and receive faxes after the number of rings specified by the Rings to Answer setting. (The default Rings to Answer setting is five rings). Receiving a fax manually If the HP All-in-One has been set up to receive faxes manually (the Auto Answer option is set to Off ), or you answer the phone and hear fax tones, use these instructions to receive faxes.

  1. Make sure the HP All-in-One is turned on and you have paper loaded in the input tray.
  2. Remove any originals from the document feeder tray.
  3. Set the Rings to Answer setting to a high number to allow you to answer the incoming call before the HP All-in-One answers. Or, turn off the Auto Answer setting so that the HP All-in-One does not automatically answer incoming calls.
  4. If you are currently on the phone with the sender, instruct the sender to press Start on their fax machine.
  5. When you hear fax tones from a sending fax machine, do the following:
    1. Press Start Fax Black or Start Fax Color on the control panel of the HP All-in- One.
    2. When prompted, press the down arrow to highlight Receive Fax Manually , and then press OK .
  6. Press Start Fax Black again.
  7. After the HP All-in-One begins to receive the fax, you can hang up the phone or remain on the line. The phone line is silent during fax transmission.

I need to reprint the last inoming fax. HELP!!!

Printing a Fax in Memory If you have Fax Storage ON for remote retrieval, you can still print a fax in the memory when you are at your machine: 1 Press Menu/Set, 8, 4. 2 Press Fax Start. 3 Press Stop/Exit. (See Turning On Fax Storage, page R-2.) Polling For details about the Polling feature, call our Brother fax-back system 1-800-521-2846 (in USA), 1-800-681-9838 (in Canada) and request at the Index. (See Features That Are Not in the Manual, page 6-6 for details.) Polling is the process of retrieving faxes from another fax machine. You can use your fax machine to "poll" other machines, or you can have someone poll your machine. All parties involved in polling need to set up their fax machines to accommodate polling. When someone polls your machine to receive a fax, they pay for the call; if you poll someone's fax machine to receive a fax, you pay for the call. (See Canceling a Scheduled Job, page 6-5.) Some fax machines do not respond to the Polling feature.

Accidentally set the pulse/tone dialing feature to pulse for a Ricoh 4430L. How do I change it ?

Option setting within "Setup" menu (need access code of 2222) allows you to see advanced features not normally viewed after installation of fax machine is completed. Within these advanced features is a parameter to choose analog line setting of either tone or pulse.

My HP 6100 series all in one wants to align cartridge

This document explains the different results obtained when using or not using the Automatic Reduction (or Auto Reduction) Feature. The following issues usually result when the Automatic Reduction feature is not set correctly:
  • Faxes printing too small
  • Faxes printing on more than one page
  • A blank page ejecting between each printed fax page
This feature can be turned ON (the default) or OFF from the Advanced Fax Features menu. The two main purposes of the Auto Reduction feature
  • Fits a received fax page onto the paper size loaded in the paper tray and selected in the paper size setting of the Basic Fax Setup. For example; if letter size paper is loaded in the paper tray and selected in the fax settings and a legal size document is received, each page will be reduced and printed on one letter sized paper.
  • Allows the addition of the fax header margin at the top of every printed fax without extending the fax onto another page. The fax header is printed at the top of every fax received with identifying information about the fax sender. Since this increases the overall page length, the page must be reduced to fit onto one page. Auto reduction slightly shrinks the fax as it is received so the entire page will print on one piece of paper even though a top margin is allowed for the fax header.

Setting up fax feature

get a separate telephone cable and attach it to your fax, switch line over from phone to fax manually at the phone line input on the wall, it's the ONLY way I can manage that same problem. If you forget to "switch" your lines over, unplug the fax from the wall & answer your other house phone that's plugged into the wall. Works every time. It takes a little effort, but why pay for more phone lines when all you have to do is plug/unplug an extra phone line?

Memory full

1. Fax Storage may be set to On. When Fax Storage is set to On, a copy of all received faxes are stored in the memory, thus using up a % of the memory available for other functions. The Fax Storage feature is utilized for Fax Forwarding, Fax Paging and Remote Retrieval. If you do not need these features, Fax Storage should be set to Off. Verify Fax Storage is set to Off by doing the following:

a. Press FUNCTION, 8 (Remote Fax Opt), then 2 (Fax Storage).

b. Check the setting. The display will read On or Off.

c. If the setting is On, press the left or right navigation key (arrows) until the display reads Off.

d. Press SET and then STOP/EXIT.

e. If you have faxes stored in the memory, you will receive a message that reads Erase all fax 1. Yes 2. No. This means you have faxes saved in the memory. If you do not want to reprint the saved faxes, press 1 (Yes) and then STOP/EXIT. After pressing 1 (Yes), all fax data is erased and Fax Storage is turned off.

Hope this helps!

Audible ring has changed/machine won't answer when called

It is to do with "smart ring" feature or in your area called "distinctive ring" feature. The machine won't receive unless the ring pattern matches your distinctive ring pattern. If you are not using that feature, then you must turn the feature off. Then set your receive mode to "fax tel" mode if it is your only line.
