Humidty reading remains at 84%

I have a Danby Silhouette dehumidifier model DDR583R. The humidity is reading 84% and has remained around that level for months. I purchased a simliar unit (Danby DDR5588RHE) and it is showing a humidity reading of 69% (the units are beside each other). Both units are set for 50% and it sounds like my original unit's compressor is working. I think that the humidistat is providing a false reading. Your guidance is appreciated.

Dehumidifiers are generally a very simple appliance, however a humidistat is one of those items a person tends to rely on to provide feedback. You may want to remove the grille area where the humidistat is mounted and inspect for foreign material in the way of the sensor. If nothing foreign is detected then you should replace the humidistat.

My Danby DDR583R dehumidifier no longer dehumidifies unless I set the humidistat to the lowest, constant run setting--then the compressor kicks on. The humidity reading says 14% which I know to be...

There are a several things that can mimic a faulty humidity sensor.

1. The air intake filter is clogged and needs to be removed and cleaned.

2. The coiling coils need to be cleaned.

3. Ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 - 60 degrees.
dehumidifiers do not work well between those temperatures
(Unless, you have a Low Temp Unit). This applies mainly to
where the air temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder
level
in basement applications. Raising the unit up off the floor,
onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight
of the unit, plus a full tank of water, will usually resolve this
problem.

If the above fails to help solve the problem, replacing the Humidity Sensor is certainly an option. But, before you jump into it, make sure you have an accurate wiring diagram, so you know which sensor is which. As the part does not come with installation instructions.

I hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

E1 display humidied is at 98% flashing blue light

That's indicating the the humidity level you have it set on is, set to high to remove humidity in the air. Turn the unit OFF and unplug it from the wall. Remove the water collection bucket and empty is if there's any water in it. Wait 10 minutes and remove the air intake filter and clean it, if necessary. Then, plug the unit back in and turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to ON. Lower the humidity extraction level to 32 - 35%. The unit should start up and operate as it should.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

I have a Danby Silhouette and the fan works but the dehumidifier doesnt.

Bryan, it may imply be a case of the humidity extraction level being set to high. Lower the level to 35% and see what happens. As far as the fan running is concerned. Most dehumidifiers are designed for the fan to run, even if the compressor doesn't turn ON. It's designed to keep the air circulating and if the humidity rises above the setting you have it on, the humidity sensor will pick up this change and turn the compressor ON.

Also, remove the air intake filter to see if it's clogged and needs cleaning. Maintain at least a minimum of 12" of free air space all around the dehumidifier. Poor air circulation will prevent the unit from working properly. As will, to low an ambient air tempeature. Most unit struggle to work at temperature between 40 & 60 degrees F.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

Ice build-up on Danby Dehumidifier DDR583R

Make sure you have enough air moving over the coils. There is an air filter on some models which may be obstructed. Insufficient air flow will cause your problem.
