Why if the refrigerator door worked for seven years now all of a sudden the door comes open I didn't do anything to the front legs, why should I have to adjust them? Something else is making the frig do this what is it? Thanks All I have done is went around the rubber with a wash cloth. From what I'm reading on the net it sounds like I need to unplug it for a day. I'll wait till I hear from you before I do that.

SOURCE: Refrigerator/freezer

Thank You very much for your quick response to my request for advice. I have solved the problem by placeing 2 metal washers on the bottom hinge of the top freezer door. Now the door seems to close tightly, and the freezer is working fine. Thank you again. Housewife from southern New Jersey.

SOURCE: Frigidaire refrigerator is warm on top of frig and freezer but fine on the bottom of both.

i suspect the fan is not working. take the back panel off inside the freezer and check that the fan is free to rotate, check for continuity thro the fan motor and check you have power to the fan

SOURCE: Refrigerator door won't shut

Check to see if the door gasket has forzen water that is preventing it from collapsing like it should and wedging the door open. This would most likely be on the hinge side of the door.

Also make sure the gasket is not bent or warped and binding as it closes.

Let us know if you find nothing wrong there and we can look further.

also check defrost timer, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

SOURCE: power on but not cooling

mostly either compressor or relay is bad. replace relay and see if it works, since that is cheaper part..

How to make the freezer door on a kenmore elite 74033 tilt

Refrig of the year: Kenmore Elite 74033 Refrigerator
Consumer Reports Rated: Excellent

Hello Charles,

Just when I'm thinking Sears SERVICE is NOT some sort
of sad/bad joke... you put in a Kenmore Elite Model number...

continued search found your Owners Manual... Pages 10 & 16 are what you want

The front should be slightly higher than the rear to aid in door closing... (page 10)

Your refrigerator has two front leveling legs-one on the right and one on the left. Adjust the legs to alter the tilt from front-to-back or side-to-side. If your refrigerator seems unsteady, or you want the doors to close more easily, adjust the refrigerator's tilt using the instructions below: NOTE: Tools Required: 11/16" wrench or flat blade screwdriver.
1. Turn the leveling leg to the left to raise that side of the refrigerator or to the right to lower it. It may take several turns of the leveling leg to adjust the tilt of the refrigerator.
NOTE: Having someone push backward against the top of the refrigerator takes some weight off of the leveling legs. This makes it easier to adjust the legs.
2. Open both doors again and check to make sure that they close easily. If the doors do not close easily, tilt the refrigerator slightly more to the rear by turning both leveling legs to the left. It may take several more turns, and you should turn both leveling legs the same amount... (page 16)

`` After that...

All you have to do to maximize that efficiency is keep the closure area free of pizza boxes, ice cubes or errant frozen food bags.

Hope this was helpful...

When I open bottom or top fridge doors they swing all the way open by themselves instead of staying put partially open

Hi,
The fridge needs to be leveled better...
When the doors swing open then gravity takes over and pulls the doors open the rest of the way...
to fix this adjust the legs of the fridge so that it leans just a bit away from the hinge side and back just a bit...then the doors will swing closed by themselves...

The back legs may have to be shimmed and the front leg adjustments are usually right behind the front cover at the floor...sometimes there are screws there to adjust the back legs from the front also...

Thick brown liquid at leg of of refrigerator

the thick brown liquid is decomposing moss, from the condensate inside the unit finding a way out.(think of it as the same stuff you get around a shower tray)clean out the fridge using clorine bleach and dry thoroughly....leave the door open for the clorine to gas off otherwise it will taint the food.when the smell has gone then close door and switch on.(some people use milton fluid, but clorine kills all known germs....)

Open door and whole unit moves, it dosen't come with back legs, or does it??

Hello,

No most don't have rear legs. However, they usually will have front legs that screw down past the wheels/rollers to prevent it from sliding around under normal conditions.

You may have to remove the grill in the front (if present on your model) to adjust the wheels/rollers "up" out of the way while lowering the legs to level it, and they should also act as "brakes" to a degree if the floor/surface is relatively level.

Hope that helps,

Good Luck

Our GE upright freezer door keeps opening on its own! Our food is starting to melt and the manual only talks about tightening the refrigerator door. What should i do?

Your refrigerator is leaning forward to far and you need to adjust the front legs so that it is slightly leaning back. This is why the doors are opening as they work by gravity. On the bottom left and right front corners of your refrigerator you should round pads with threaded legs screwed it the bottom of your refrigerator. You need to lean the unit back and adjust these out to raise the front of your refrigerator until the doors when opened will slowly shut on its own. A level comes in handy for leveling also.

I have a whirlpool the refrigerator door will not stay close.

It shouldn't be pushing the door itself...you see the magnet that is used in the refrigerators are not repulsive. It doesn't get weaken that easily but what you can do is check if there isn't something bulging out of the fridge and pushing the door...take out all the things from inside and then try closing the door again. If door opens up again then definitely you have to look for a new gasket.

LG bottom freezer

Sounds like the refrigerator is sitting lopsided.  Make sure that the front legs are both retracted in the up position.  If it doesn't work, then lower the front leg on the hinge side of the refrigerator.  That will cause the frame to lift the door and it should be able to close properly.

Kenmore

problem has been almost certainly caused by freezer door not being completley closed allowing warm humid air into freezer, (do not say this could not happen because it often does), sollution, turn off defrost overnight, turn on following day, within 24hrs unit will work ok. Regards Adviso
