Replace compacitor on Carrier 5 ton 3 phase AC

Your 3 phase unit should not have a capacitor. I'm guessing it's single phase. If it's a single capacitor than the compressor should not be going to it also. To test the motor, common to start plus common to run should equal the ohms you get between start and run. For instance, 1.2 ohms+ 2.2 ohms= 3.4 ohms. Follow the wiring diagram on the inside of the door, send model number!!

How to Reverse the Rotation of Single Phase Capacitor-Start Electric Motors

Reversing the rotation of electric motors can be done easily with 3-phase motors. This can be easily achieved by swapping the connection of any two motor leads. But 3-phase motors are usually found and used for industrial purposes. The ones found and used in our homes, from water pumps to electric fans, are single phase capacitor-start type motors. Unlike 3-phase motors, reversing the rotation of single phase electric motors is no easy task. Swapping any two motor leads will not result in the reversal of the motor rotation. Analysis of the motor windings and connections are necessary before any modification can be done to achieve the desired result. Let's take a 3-speed single phase capacitor-start electric motor with electrical diagram shown below as an example. Make sure the motor is disconnected from the power supply before attempting to follow this tip. This tip is intended only for individuals with electrical knowledge, necessary tools, and understand the risks associated with handling electrical equipments and devices.

The first step in the process is determining the start winding which is connected to the line (AC white) and to one side of the start capacitor. To accurately determine the start winding, disconnect all motor leads from the start capacitor and the speed switch for multi-speed motors and then setting your ohmmeter to the lowest scale (R x 1), measure the resistances between the AC white line and each of the motor leads connecting to the start capacitor. The one with the least resistance is the starting winding lead.

Once the start winding lead going to the capacitor is determined, reconnect the capacitor then connect the black AC line to the found start winding lead (marked X). Connect the white AC line to L of speed switch, the motor lead formerly connected to AC white to 3, red to 2, and white to 1 as shown below. Leave the green/yellow ground wire connection as is.

Where can i find ac motor connection diagrams, specifically, single phase forward and reverse, and 415v motor to 240v power diagrams? thanks andy

there is no motor that is single phase with 415 volts only 240 volt or 120volt and you cannot use a 3 phase motor on single phase it will just fail to start buzz and burn it up .single phase motors have capacitors 3 phase motors do not

How do I connect multiple (two or more) 3 phase ac power sources (from wind turbine alternators) to a single 3 phase junction to power one device?

what did you mean by single 3 phase? single phase motor have two wire output 110-110, 3 phase gen have 3 wires 110-110-110. if only two wires here ,this is single phase, all appliances are only single phase so you can connect it here, except some 3 phase motor or dynamo. the ac current has no polarity so you can connect to it all kinds of load depends upon the amperage of of your turbine generators

I have a miller cp 300. It is wired for 3 phase power. I need to hook it up to 230 volt power. How do I do this correctly.

You cannot do this... 3 phase and single phase cannot be inter used... see 3 phase is 440 V AC, single phase is 230 Vots AC. This is unless the unit has Dual capability, in this case the wiring could only be wired to a Single Phase. of the unit. You will need a slow blow breaker of the correct rating and also the cable must be similarly CURRENT rated. If it IS only 3 phase, you can purchase after market single phase to 3 phase converters, that will allow you to plug the 3 phase into a single phase circuit and work, they quite costly though.

Is posible run a single phase electric motor from a source three phase 120/208 wye connection the motor is rated 230 volts AC

It is indeed possible to use ONE Phase to run a motor, You simply use One Phase and Neutral. BUT ONLY if the 3 phase is Double, more or less, the required usage Voltage, EG: 440 3 phase, will be OK, for 220 single phase, . But 220 3 Phase, will not run a 240. single Phase. So in your case is suspect not, it really will do no harm to try though. it just wouldn't work, if not enough "juice", be careful.

Old capassitor has 3 prongs new capassitor has 2 prongs

The old motor relied on a leg off of the ol cap marked FAN. No need to bother with it anymore because the new motor probably has a different cap rating therefore it needs its own wittle capacitor. Cute ain't it? That new motor will probably have a common wire to connect to that Old cap at the C mark on it though. It will have 2 brown wires to connect to that new cap for it. (insulate that cute little cap to prevent any shocktastrophies) The black wire will of couse go to wher the old one did on the contactor. Read a little ditty I affectionatly wrote for further info entitled 'old motor had 3 wires new motor has 4 WTF"

Switching phase on products are usually up to UL. You need a good tech and it can be done. If it is marked 3 phase and you make a single, the responsibility falls on the person that did the conversion. Components should be similar from 3 phase to single, just use OEM parts!
