I overloaded my washer and now when it spins it seems to be off balance. It's really loud and inefficient in getting the water out of the clothes. I don't know anything about electronics and don't really have the funds to hire a repairman. Is there anything I can do???

You may have knocked the whole machine off balance. Is it a bit wobbly when you lean on it? If so adjust the feet to level it.
Try spinning on empty to get the drum happy again.

do not overload and try to distribute clothes in an even weight pattern over the tub bottom.

My whirlpool duet washer hammers very loud when it spins. The outside of the machine doesn't seem to vibrate much but it is very loud.

That is a common occurrence with dryers such as this one. Even though it sounds bad, it is harmless. If it really bothers, you can re-balance the load and it should reduce the vibration.

My washer/dryer combo Frigidaire washer dosn't spin water out of clothes completely after spin cycles the clothes is still very wet. On the 1st spin cycle drum dosn't spin just makes noise, the 2nd and...

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand your Frigidaire laundry center, model# FGX831CS, is not spinning water out of your clothes completely. I see that on the first spin cycle the drum is not spinning and is just making noise, and on the second spin cycle the drum spins to the left very slowly and loudly. First check to see if your washer is overloaded. Try taking some clothes out and spinning them again. Secondly, make sure that the load is not out of balance. Try rearranging the clothes to allow for proper spinning. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your dryer status has changed successfully. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

Not spinning and making loud noise

Usually when the washer goes into spin cycle, it takes a little time to do so because it is trying to start a heavy load of wet clothes from standstill. As it speeds up, if the load is out of balance, it will start to wobble and then the off-balance switch is activated, shutting down the power to the motor and turning on an alarm momentarily. If this is close to what you are experiencing, try to realign the load so that the clothes are not bunched on one side of the drum - that is, distribute the load around the drum. You should be able to close the lid and press start to get it to try again. If this doesn't work, try removing most of the clothes, especially the heavy items, like jeans or sheets. You might be overloading the washer. Try it again.

When spinning, Out of balance message occurs, then the machine starts to add water to get the load out of balance. It will put additional time on the wash cycle. It will drain and try to spin again. Then...

it could be weak shocks for the drum or the springs. you can also overload the washer. there should be a gap in filling washer with clothes around 5-to 6 cm's on the drum ring this gives space for movement and balancing. the washer can also become out of balance if the bearing is damaged, if you can lift the drum from the bottom of the ring and it moves up and down by few millimeters and feels lose then its usually a sign the bearing is weak. this can make the display say there is a problem with balance. 6kg or 7kg is the weight of the clothes and water not the clothes. over loading the washer damages the bearings and put more pressure on the shocks and springs.

When spinning very loud before very silent

Hi,

Since you say that before it was silent and these days you see loud noise while spinning I would first recomend to see the correct balance of the cloth you put in. Normal these mean unbalance load of clothes. Try to balance it with heavy clothes opposite each other. The fabric that hold more water tend to be heavier during the spin cycle. Also try not to overload the machine by washing clothes just half to 3 quarters full
Also Either you put something like a screw or a nail in with the washing, which will travel through the drum holes and scrape on the fixed drum. Check in case anything is left in a hole.
Or the bearing which the drum rotates on is shot. If you lift the front edge of the drum up and down by hand you may find excessive play due to bearing wear (a small amount of movement is normal), or rotate it by hand to confirm the noise.
Bearing replacement is acually quite easy for an average DIY person. You can get the bearing and water seal from either the maker or a good w/m spares shop (yellow pages). The tools needed are crosspoint screwdriver, and a socket set.
Thanks for contacting Fixya.

Washer shakes real bad in spin cycle

Does it do this when the drum is empty? If not, then you may be overloading the unit with clothes. Or, the clothes may have entangled into a ball. Untangle and spread out.

Washer making noise in spin cycle

Is this unit new? I had a frigidaire that would really get to going on the spin cycle. Got the clothes really dry and sounded like a jet engine if no clothes were in it. Is it a whisling sound or screeching sound...The sound could be coming from the water pump. It may have something in it that is dragging. Some you can take the bottom off of and clean them out..
