Hotpoint wf640 washer says 'test' on digital display. what does this mean?

Someone has accidentally pressed some buttons and locked you into test mode.
To get out of it you need to press start, the display should go daft. Press start again and the display should settle down. Now press the on/off button and the start button at the same time and hold them down for a few seconds until the display shows d-end or d-off.
Your machine should now work.

F-03 means that there is a drain problem. Check the drain filter and the drain hose. The drain filter must be cleaned and the drain hose must be set according to the specifications on the appliance's manual.

'f02' normally indicates a problem with the motor or the tacho. Often these kinds of faults with Indesit (Hotpoint, Ariston) are cured by reseating plugs/sockets but require a service engineer's attention I suggest ;-0(

Remove the lower rear panel of washer, locate and remove the large black hose fastened to bottom of drum.
Remove and clean plastic filter inside the hose.
Reassemble and test for leaks.
Have some cloths ready to wipe up water from hose.

F08 means the heater relay on the main electronic module (in the back of the machine) has failed.

F02 indicates that the motor tacho has broken or become detached, this is to be found on the end of the motor shaft.

Press and hold "on/off" and "start" buttons together for five seconds.

This has happend to me today! this is the fix

1. Press and hold the Start/Cancel button until message clears
2. Now press both Start/Cancel and On/Off buttons together until you get a dOFF message
3. now your machine should work OK

check your water supply to the machine is of adequate pressure . this is the sign when the machine is not getting enough water

Hotpoint’s are designed to go into test mode when the start button and the on/off button are pressed at the same time. If you are stuck in Test mode, simply hold the start button down until it comes out of test mode, then hold both the start buttons and the on/off button down until you see ‘D:end’ (or similar message)."
