The LCD screen may be faulty. I suggest you borrow a monitor to test your laptop if you do not already own one.
If the laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then connect an external monitor to the laptops video port. Power up the monitor and then boot up the laptop and the video information will automatically divert to the external monitor.
If this works then you have a working laptop.
Hi, thanks for your response. i tried as you said, but in the external monitor, screen is not clear and it is zig zag.
research this suggestion further, however a number of hp's have been getting this problem due to the graphics overheating. this happens to both the intel and AMD mobos although HP deny its an issue on the intel boards as it has a seperate heatsink channel to the CPU - load of lies though, both have the problems. a number of videos on Youtube demonstrate using a small gas blowtorch, aluminium and tin cans to reset the solder on the chip to give yourself a DIY repair. in addition to this, good thermal paste and additional copper shims to increase the heatsink size may get you going. worst case scenario, the motherboard is ruined by cooking it too much, but seeing as it's ruined anyway, whats the difference? just check this is a likely problem for your model!
