white smoke indicates blown head gasket or head , get the cylinders compression tested , have the OBD codes read to give you some idea of any components faulty
White smoke is water vapor and in this cold climate it is normal. Strong gas smell is not normal although you may smell some while engine is warming up. Bad cat converter can produce smells, but usually more like rotten eggs. If engine is running rough and seems rich, check coolant temp sensor. Bad converter can cause stalling too. Otherwise, idle speed is controlled by idle air contol motor which can get dirty and stick. Any codes set?
I have an 01 Impala 3.8 engine. At first start-up white smoke is seen, smells like raw gas, and tail pipe is black as coal. Fuel milage isn't good either. Would the regulator be bad?
It could be either the engine, catylitic convertor if the smoke is black. If the smoke coming out is white it could be engine coolant problem. If it is not getting enough power it could be the carburator not getting enough gas.
sounds like you have a regulator problem if your fuel pump has a built in regulator it might have went bad or if it is separate from the fuel pump it may be bad. fuel injected engines have to reicive the right amount of fuel if your regulator is not workin its dumpin to much fuel into the engine
Thanks there is also water coming from it
