Every time I play Avatar in my samsung blu ray player bd-p1000 the screen on the dvd player says interactive but then it starts playing the opening credits and it wont go into menu mode, I can't do anything fast forward, it just stays there. I have tried to download the firmware update 2.2 when copied onto a cd then put into the player the ploayer will not read the cd.

We have finally managed to get avatar to play!!!!! We had the same problem. Frustrating I know - but after returning the DVD back to the shop three times, trying updating previously, then waiting for another update from Samsung from Sept (they have not provided a further update) - we are feeling jubilant!

We copied the firmware to a CD disc once again. It did not initally look as if it was loading but if you wait you are asked if you if you want to upgrade eventually. Once you affirm - it takes a good five to ten minutes to process the firmware/ upgrade. It tells you when it has completed. We discovered by chance that you need to then switch off the player and switch back on again for the update to become functional.

Initally we still could not get AVATAR to load as far as the menu screen. We tried newer Blue Ray DVDs purchased December that previously would not play - and now do! To get AVATAR to play we switched off & on the blue ray player with the disc still loaded a couple of times and each time we got a little further towards the functioning menu screen.

A lot of messing around, so be sure you have the time available to persevere!

I have just tried to work out why it took so much time to get to the point of being able to view AVATAR - after not finding much solutions online it all becomes easier with this help page that was available (but not inially found) at samsung.com

I have a Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray Disc Player that will not play Blu-Ray discs rented from BlockBusters in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. To Date, of all my 100 regular DVD, and approximately 25 owned Blu-Ray...

BD-P1000 Update Solution
The solution that worked for me: I went to www.samsung.com/ca and downloaded the Samsung BD-P1000 player's firmware update to my desktop. When opened, I was directed to"burn" a DVD on my computer. I then inserted the new DVD in my Blu-Ray player. The player automatically checked and confirmed player model number and registration and uploaded information from the DVD and the update was complete. The BD-P1000 then flawlessly played the rented Blu-Ray disc of "The Scorpion King".
Thank You Samsung!
