Scanner Error 52 is a hardware error. If turning the power off , waiting 30 seconds and turning it back on does not solve the issue the the scanner assembly might need to be replaced. Another thing to try is make sure the printer is plugged into the wall not into a surge protector. Aside from that you may need to have the scanner assembly replaced.

Hp color laserjet 2840 error 52.

I noticed that this was posted in Oct 2010. If you are still waiting for an answer,
the printer has a scanner error. Power off for about 30 seconds. Power on, if
error persists, the scanner assembly will have to be replaced.
I hope that you got it fixed by now!

Problem with the HP LaserJet 2840 All-In-One Printer Scanner error 5

The scanner bed needs to be replaced. You can order the part from HP but it is not a user replaceable part. You can also take it to a local printer repair shop.

I am getting scanner error 5 massage on hp 2840

A tech needs to look at it. It could be as easy as just reseating the 4 wire bundle connector that comes off the scanner and connects to the formatter.
But, in any event a tech has to check it out.

Scanner Error 5 "error message" on my all in one

I had this problem and it had to do with the scan bulb head not recognising the marker. My temporary fix until the bulb is replaced is to turn the printer off, open the top (ADF and all) with the gray button on the right so that it's slightly raised and then switch the printer on. When it comes up, just close and print/scan/copy as usual. Apparently the spring in the arm warped the interior surface where the head moves and it can't line up when it's closed. Hope this helps.

52 scanner error on HP Color Laserjet 2840

The device has experienced an internal hardware error. Recommended Action
  1. Turn off the power by using the power switch, wait at least 30 seconds, and then turn on the power and wait for the device to initialize.
  2. If the error is still unresolved, contact Hewlett-Packard for technical support to troubleshoot the problem. Call HP for telephone support

HP LaserJet 2840

The error your having caused by the scanner assembly in the Auto Doc Feeder. The part is not real difficult to replace however it is not cheap. Here's the part number: Q3948-60191.

The part is available through HP online at http://partsurfer.hp.com for $130.76 plus shipping. It is also available (probably a little cheaper) from Seattle Platen, Dale - 1-800-221-2388.

We have been sucessful a couple times in disassembling the lower (scanning) section of the Auto Doc Feeder and thoroughly cleaning all mirrors and lenses. It's about 1 in 8 that will clear up the issue. Replacement is 100% cure.

Here's a free copy of the HP 2820/2840 service manual that will help you in the disassembly.

Hope that helps solve your printer issues. :)
