Whirlpool Refrigerator - Model# ED22LF

Hi Catriver,

I was wondering if you can help me on another issue. Your help on my dishwasher was a great help.

I have a Whirlpool refrigerator(it's actually my son's fridge) that has stopped cooling. Both sides, refrigerator side and the freezer side. It is a Whirlpool, Model # ED22LF. It has an icemaker with an in the door dispenser. It showed no signs of failure, it just quit one day. The interior blower runs but no cool air. I unplugged it, thought it may reset, no luck. Any ideas of where to start?

    Hey Catriver,

You were right on ...I have the overload and relay and it's in a white case and yes it rattles. I took it apart and the round or maybe half round disk is shattered and has been burnt. This fridge is specifically model #ED22LFXHW02. I found a parts site, but I'm not sure what all to buy, any suggestions?

    I REALLY appreciate your help!

Tom, I would start with the overload and relay that is on the compressor, If it is white it's a good possibility that it has failed. The fact that both sides are not cooling leaves me to believe the compressor is not operating. Take the overload and relay off. If they are both contained in a white cover shake it. If it rattles, I believe that is your problem. Let me know what you find...Catriver.

Your part number is 8201799, you can find it at repairclinic.com, around 47.00, If you can, please change the rating to Fixed, everytime I get rated helpful, my ratings go down. That's why I don't spend too much time on this site anymore. The more you help, the more you go in the gutter. Glad I could help, thx. Catriver.

I have a whirlpool ref/freezer the ice dispenser won't work. makes ice and water dispenser is ok. sv

Your model appears to be quite simple electrically. It does not have a major circuit board it's very possible that the pressure switch, wire connection at the dispenser, hinge or the interlock freezer lightswitch is bad on your model. Can a condenser on a whirlpool ED22LF go completely bad

Only way a condensor can go bad is if leaks refrigerant or a line gets kinked. If by chance it gets clogged it can be cleared with nitrogen, it all depends on hold much service the tech knows. hope this helps.

Dishwasher problem

Hi Sharon , Im not finding your model number dwf415. See if you have high temp wash and heated dry buttons on your dishwasher. If you do, press high temp wash, heated dry, high temp wash, heated dry in that order. This will run the service mode and reset the board. If you don't have those buttons post the cycles you have or the full model number. Catriver

My whirlpool refrigerator trips the main power

Pankaj, Do you have a ohm meter? Sounds like you have something shorting back. First take the meter to the cord. On the end of the cord, you should show no continuity from each male prong to the ground prong on the cord itself. If you show continuity, you have something shorting back. Then I would start with the compressor, Unplug the wires going to the overload and relay, make sure the units unpluged and meter the cord again. If it's ok, then the problem is in the overload and relay. Start there and let me know, if it still showing a short, then we will have to go to the controls, heater, and repeat the process until you find the culprit. Catriver.

Whirlpool from ikea DWF415

hazman, depending on your serial number, this model has a bunch of service issues. Everything from the motor rework to the heating element. Sounds like your issue has to do with the heating element. If the dishwasher does not detect a 4 degrees temp. rise in the water in will go into this fault. They have redesigned the board to bypass this fault in later models. Since I don't have a serial number I can't tell if you have one of the affected models, but I assume so. I would call Whirlpool and inquire about any service flashes they have on this dishwasher, you may be covered. Otherwise you would have to do some tests to determine the cause, starting with the heating element. I believe you can clear the fault by pressing these keys in this order: high temp-air dry-high temp-air dry. four key presses...this should put it in the automatic test mode. Let it do it's thing and the fault should clear. For more info on your dishwasher there should be a tech sheet behind the bottom toe panel....Catriver..post back.

Leaking compressor

jccam, just wondering if the service tech tapped into the system. This way he could tell whether or not you were low on charge or had a restriction in the system. You can replace the compresser on this model. It has to be done by a epa certified technician. Part number for the compressor kit is 2212192. You can see if it would be cost effecient at this link http://www.repairclinic.com/0080.asp Catriver post back.

INQUIS SUPPERB II

Rick, if the lid switch was bad, you wouln't be able to drain. Sounds more like a coupler. This goes between the motor and trans. Easy fix. I will attach a photo of how to remove the cabinet and a picture of the coupler. The screws for the top console will be on the back on your model...Catriver..post back.

Blowing fuse...

Tim, this blown fuse issue was pretty common on this model. Whirlpool, which made this model came out with a fuse kit that included a terminal and heavier guage wire to eliminate this problem. It just splices right into the control board, easy job. The model number that you posted had some service flashes out on it including a heater and motor rework. If your model number ends in 00 or 01, yours may be included. You may want to check with Whirlpool to get that fuse kit and check on the service flash. The service flash is 22-721. Good luck, Catriver
