Is your system on? If it is on, then you press copy, it scans it and a window showing your scanned document is displayed. Then from here (the system) you can print it. Try it and tell me what happens.

Need user manual and software for a HP ScanJet 4p scanner

HI...................

HP ScanJet 4p Scanners - How to Use the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) gtabseps.gif
gtabblt.gif Tips for Using gtabblt.gif Step 1 - Load the Paper gtabblt.gif Step 2 - Scan the Document gtabblt.gif To Scan a Single Page gtabseps.gif Tips for Using
  • Remove any paper from the copyboard glass before using the ADF.
  • Straighten any curls or wrinkles from documents before putting them on the document tray. If this is not possible, do not scan these documents using the ADF. Instead, use the copyboard glass or make a photocopy of the documents and scan the photocopies.
  • Remove staples, paper clips, and any other materials from documents.
  • Avoid documents with tears, perforations, or punch holes.
  • Do not use the ADF to scan sheets of uncommon paper or other media, such as the following: - transparencies - gummed-backed paper - magazine pages - lightweight ("onionskin") carbons
  • For paper smaller than 5 inches (127 mm) by 7 inches (178 mm) or larger than 14 inches (356 mm) by 8.5 inches (216 mm), use the scanner glass instead of the ADF. Paper smaller than the minimum size may cause a paper jam.
  • For paper lighter than 16 lb bond (60 g/m sq) or heavier than 32 lb bond (120 g/m sq), use the scanner glass instead of the ADF.
  • Before scanning, always push the front of the ADF downward to the scanner to ensure that the magnetic latches are engaged.
Step 1 - Load the Paper Besides the instructions below, quick reference decals on the input tray and access hatch show the order of steps for paper loading.
  1. Turn on the scanner.
  2. Ensure the scanner's scanner glass is free of paper.
  3. Turn the green paper load lever into an upright and open position. Refer to decal number 1 located on the ADF access hatch.
  4. Put the top end of the paper stack face up on the input tray. Refer to decal number 2 and pointer arrows on the ADF input tray.
  5. Push the paper stack up against the green document guide and slide it right against the green registration stop, which is in the middle of the paper load window.
  6. Turn the green paper load lever 45 degrees into the closed position. This will secure the paper stack. Refer to decal number 3 on the ADF access hatch. The ADF is now loaded and ready for scanning.
Step 2 - Scan the Document The ADF works with many software packages that are compatible with the HP ScanJet color scanners. To scan a document, refer to the user's manual of the software package being used. To Scan a Single Page To scan a single page while the ADF is installed on the scanner, do the following.
  1. Remove any pages from the ADF input tray.
  2. Raise the ADF.
  3. Place the page on the scanner's copyboard glass.
  4. Lower the ADF all the way and do the scan.

How do i get rid of 2 vertical lines on my copies

lift the scanner lid and then open up the ADF (document feeder) mechanism off to the left.
There's a small glass under the ADF mechanism, and it needs to be cleaned.
Use a glass cleaner like Windex sprayed onto a lint free cloth to clean it.
That's it! put the ADF back down and close the scanner lid!
Problem solved!

Why is there a line on the left side of my copy when I use the ADF on my Canon Image Clas D1150? It does not do it when the flatbed is used. Please help. Thanks, Joann

When lines appear on copies of documents fed through the ADF, it typically means that there is some kind of dirt or foreign material on the glass that the document passes over. A different window is used when scanning from the ADF as opposed to the flatbed. The flatbed window is large, often much larger than a standard sheet of paper. The ADF window, on the other hand, is small and slender. It doesn't need to be large because the document moves over it (as opposed to the flatbed, where the document is stationary while the scanner moves under it).

The ADF window is usually situated next to the flatbed glass on the side of the scanner where the ADF takes in the paper. Open the scanner lid (as though you were going to make a copy on the flatbed) and find the slender piece of glass just under where the ADF would be when the lid is closed. Once you've located the ADF glass, use a mild glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth to gently clean the surface of the glass. If you are able to see the foreign material, you can remove it by hand, but be sure to clean the glass thoroughly afterwards, as fingerprints can also cause poor quality copies.

After the glass has been cleaned, test the ADF copy function and make sure the line has disappeared. If it has not, you may need to remove the slender glass and clean the underside (though this is almost never required, as the underside is protected from environmental debris).

If you find this solution helpful, please leave a positive rating!

Two black lines down the side of the paper when fed from the top feeder.

Most likely dirt on the glass for the ADF scanner, but try making a copy from the glass first by lifting the lid and placing the document directly on the scanner. If that is clear, then it is definitely dirt on ADF glass. The ADF glass is the smaller piece of glass you see when you lift the lid. Use window cleaner and a soft cloth to make sure that you have all traces of dirt, liquid paper, post it note glue. Look at the glass from very carefully because even the slightest bit of goop can cause scan defects.

Whitch way does the paper go in for faxing ?

If your using the feeder on the top of the scanner, it should go face up. If you are faxing from the glass - face down.
