Mac OS 10.6.5 Mail 4.4 all the sudden I can not send any mail. I have checked all the normal items, have tried rebuilding my mailbox. We have 2 macs with identical operating systems. We did a box by box check on the mail to see if there was anything different. Nothing. The only thing I found strange was the mail application itself on my computer it says its size is 77.5 MB on the other computer its is only 17.9 and on mine the created date is 2/11/2010 and the other is 7/24/2009. Both computers were updated to 10.6.5 on 11/14/10. Just all the sudden on 12/3/10 my mail will not send. I can send it if I use the other mac. Suggestions???

    No, that is not it. I have deleted just about everything I can and still can't send mail.

  • Anonymous Dec 10, 2010

    I have deleted almost all old sent mail, saved mail, deleted mail, etc.

  • Anonymous Dec 10, 2010

    Those are the default ports. Any other suggestions?

    After spending and hour on the phone with apple care and no solution, they advise that I contact AOL. Thanks for the help though.

Have you tried repairing your permissions on the Mac with the problem? Also you may need to update your authentication setting for outgoing mail. After obtaining the proper settings for your mail account, do this. 1, From the Mail Menu, choose Preferences. 2. Click Accounts, then select the account that has a problem sending. 3. From the SMTP server pop-up menu *bottom of window), choose "Edit SMTP Server List" 4. Click Advanced. 5. Select the Authentication pull down menu and select the appropriate authentication type *from your ISP or the Mail Online Setup Assistant. If necessary, fill in the username and password. 6. Click OK. The Mail Setup Assistant can be found here: http://www.apple.com/support/macosx/mailassistant/

How do you setup your email into your Mac Mail? Is it POP3, IMAP, or Exchange?

If it's configured as POP or IMAP, you may want to change the outgoing server SMTP port number. If it's set to 25, then you may change it to 2525, or 587, or 465. If you're going to use port 465, make sure to enable SSL as the authentication type.

If it's an exchange type of email account, then you need to contact your email provider, because they need to check every settings in the exchange server.

Thank you and good luck!

Your mailbox is too full, you need to clear inbox, sent and deleted messages to free up space.

On my older (G3) Mac, a message with a long video attachment can take quite a while to load - the kaleidoscope cursor comes up until it is done opening the message. Try holding down the shift key while opening Mail - this stops the mailboxes from opening.

Connection Doctor would help here, but unfortunately Apple did not add this feature until 10.4. :-(
If I understand your problem correctly, you can send mail successfully, but trying later to access those messages in your Sent mailbox results in this error message. If you are using an IMAP account, you may need to visit Preferences / Accounts / Mailbox Behaviors and uncheck the box for "Store sent messages on the server." If you are using a POP account, it's possible the mailbox (or a Mail preference file) is simply corrupt and will need to be deleted and recreated. Unfortunately, the Panther and Tiger mail systems are known to be susceptible to certain types of corruption.

Hi There, In the US, getting my yahoo email (using Mail program on a MacBookPro) (yes I have yahoo plus) works like a charm. But here in Canada, most of the time, the password gets rejected... what's give?

To set up access to a free Yahoo! Mail account in Mac OS X Mail:

* Install MacFreePOPs and make sure the freepopsd service is running.
* Select Mail | Preferences... from the menu in Mac OS X Mail.
* Go to the Accounts category.
* Click + at the bottom of the Accounts list.
* Type your name under Full Name:.
* Enter your full Yahoo! Mail address (e.g. "[email protected]") under Email Address:.
* Type your Yahoo! Mail password under Password:.
* Make sure Automatically set up account is not checked.
* Click Continue.
* Make sure POP is selected under Account Type:.
* Enter "Yahoo! Mail" under Account Description:.
* Enter "localhost" (without the quotation marks) under Incoming Mail Server:.
o If you run into problems using "localhost", try "127.0.0.1".
* Type your full Yahoo! Mail address ("[email protected]", for example) under User Name:.
o Mac OS X Mail probably has already entered your user name, and it's enough to append "@yahoo.com" to complete the address.
* Click Continue.
* Click Continue again, ignoring the error. We'll take care of that in a bit.
* Make sure Password is selected under Authentication:.
* Leave Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) unchecked.
* Click Continue.
* Select an existing mail server to send mail under Outgoing Mail Server:.
o You cannot send mail through MacFreePOPs. If you have no outgoing mail server through your ISP, you can use a Gmail or AIM Mail account's.
* Click Continue.
* Now click Create.
* Highlight the Yahoo! Mail account in the Accounts list.
* Go to the Advanced tab.
* Enter "2000" (not including the quotation marks) under Port:.
* Close the Accounts window.
* Click Save.
