I have a sony DCR HC-36. I have lost software CD. I have tried to download it from the website but it asks for CD number, which i dont have. I want to transfer my video from camcarder to PC. Please help me.

Downloading software does no good if you can't install it without the cd-rom part number. The part numbers are model specific, it's what tells the downloaded files which drivers to install. Pain in the !@#%. I will never buy Sony again just for the lack of tech support.
With the firewire cable, you can use Windows Movie Maker to download videos from practically any digital camera with firewire connection (Sony called i.Link).
You can download the software from the sony website. Try searching google with the make and model of your camera + "computer driver" for whatever type of computer you have.
part number is 2-666-755-01 . I don't know why it is soooooo difficult for people to just give it up. I too was looking and finally found my disk. enjoy the number. This is for my DCR-HC26 but should work I think.
I lost my software installation CD of sony handycam Model dcr-trv 285e.
