Furuno GP31 - PC wiring instructions

Use this to check out section 7-10 to make up a cable to connect to a PC to allow download of data. Then, using the manual as a reference figure out the sequence of buttons to press to get the GP31 to download the waypoint and route data to the PC. Just press the buttons and assume the display is showing the next prompt. If you know someone you has a working GP31 get them to do the sequence and write down the buttons they press. You just copy the same sequence. You will need some software on the PC to capture the data,

The blue cable is the reférence 0 (ve-) for Receive Data (ve+ yellow wire) and for send data (green wire)
The function is the path return for the data transitting on the nmea bus. If not connected the return is made by the way of the ground of the véhicle if it is connected. othewise the nmea won't work.

It should be équal to the potential 0 Ground (if the ground plug is connected) but it could be a little different. The purpose is to isolate the minus of batterie from the ground, wich is very useful on a metalic vehicle (an aluminum boat for example).

Make sure you installed the driver for the serial to USB adaptor cable.

Thyere are onlyb two wires red and black red is power black is return and the green earth should not be earthed anywhere on the case. If you need the manual contact me [email protected]

I have the connection diagram for the GPS unit below.  It should be simple to wire up.  You will need a USB to RS-232 converter, which is available in a number of computer shops/Radio Shack.

Yes, the GP31 can connect to a PC.  With the wiring harness, it has an RS-232 port, which allows it to connect to most PCs, laptops, and even most palmtop systems.

i dont think you should have a fuse on the - wire its only a return to earth its like closing the stable door after the horse as bolted
