What CPU to use?? Celeron or P4 and up to what speed?? 1.7Ghz or higher?? Thanks

Hello!

First your motherboard have some limits, but if you can use both CPU, it is better right pentium 2,0 - 2,5 GHz, because Intel Celeron is a chiper ver. of pentium.
It is important what is your motherboard, how much RAM you have, and fsb on motherboard.
For speed isn´t enough only best CPU.

I have a Emachines 740 with an Intel Pentium 4 1.60ghz, what options do i have to upgrade the CPU to speed it up and what is the maximum ram i can install? Any help would br great. Thanks

It would be better if you just leave the CPU upgrade, but focus more on upgrading the RAM to get a higher speed.
You should be able to upgrade it to 4GIG (on the very high side though) but I would suggest that you should stay at 3GIG.
Hope this helps you out.
Best of luck

Sytem configuration

Rates depend on quality and other factors such as brand and specs.

on Average I'd say:
RAM 1GB 10 to 20$ (pretty low as of today)
160GB hdd 30 to 40$ (also pretty low, you get better values on higher capacities)
Intel core 2 Duo 150 to 300$ (CPU is performance critical and has high cost depending on frequency)
Intel mobo 50 to 70 $
DVD writer 25 to35 $
cabinet about 20$ up to 40$ depending on size, PSU,and...fashion...
